Hi all,
I have the above motherboard and although it has AM3+ support i can't find out whether it will support the AMD FX 8350. can anyone advise?

It's a crap-shoot! The FX-8300 is on the support list since bios F5a but the FX-8350 is not listed.

so is it worth trying it? I have the CPU already but don't want to damage it obviously.
I saw the support list but was wondering whether they simply hadn't added that one yet as they do say it supports the earlier FX cpus.
They do have this board GA-78LMT-USB3 as supporting it but i can't see the difference.
If I make sure the bios is latest is there a possibility?

I see on some CPU support lists that they have FX-6120, FX-4170 which are both 125w. The board is currently running the FX-4170 so if that's the case and that's a 125w CPU surely it's OK as long as the bios is updated?

Ok, So it booted up and lasted about 5 mins and then BSOD.

Can i ask what may be a silly question.
Why does CPU-Z show my AMD FX4170 as running only 2.800 MHZ and when I had the new FX 8350 in it showed as only 2.8Mhz, surely these should be running a lot faster?

Where is the bottleneck? Is it the board or maybe the 500W PSU? Or do I need to look at bios?
Thanks

You mean you tried it with out even updating to the latest bios first ?!

Thats the first thing you need to do, get the latest bios.

I put a 4130 in one of these boards and it only ran at 2.8Ghz because it is 125W and the board only supports 95 even with the latest BIOS. How are u gonna put a 189.99 CPU in a cheapy motherboard ? At least step up to an asrock extreme 3 or msi 970A-G46

Your MoBo is probably a 95W board...get an Asrock extreme3 970 series, or if you plan to Xfire or SLI then buy the 990 series.

AMD FX-8350 AM3+ Vishera 125W CPU is first in the GA-78LMT-USB3 CPU compatibility list

OK, my mistake.. I was looking at the USB3 model and a link brought me to this thread, so I didn't bother to check/compare the model.

Not to bash your recommendation but I have to advise against that board as I just had to return one because it was very unstable with 2 separate FX chips (FX-4130 & 6300) and then one day just died on me only 2 weeks old. Granted this may be an isolated issue I just went back to my tried and true Asrock Extreme. For $80 he could buy an Extreme 3 with has pretty much the same exact specs as the MSI just in my opinion is a higher quality board.
