Running 6-pin GPU on a 4-pin molex - high GPU temperature

Hi, I just recently replaced my PCU, it is a cheap temporary solution, and it didn't have the 6-pin connector for my GeForce 9800GT, so I had to buy a 4-pin molex to 6-pin converter.

It is one of those 2x 3-pin molex (one pin missing in each molex) converter. Now my GPU temperature is higher than usual. It is cycling between 65-73°C. Could it be because of the PCU, or the connectors? Could I have connected something wrong?

I have never been a fan of using molex. is there a possibility that the card is not getting enough power to run the fan at higher speeds?

Well, your guess is as good as mine. But the new PCU has more power than the old one, so I don't think that is the issue.

I think it is a combination of many things, as the fan is of lower quality as well and is due for replacement, PCU is not that high in quality as well, as I said - it is only temporary. But if the high temps will destroy my GPU, then it's not that good of a solution at all.

But I've never used molex to 6 pin, so I'm just wondering if that might be the issue. Especially since GPU temp was just fine half an hour ago.

Yeah, I think I'm in the safe for now as I've seen that a lot of users have high temps on 9800 GT. But I'm still curious to what caused the increase.
