PXE Environment slow through Gb router

When booting to PXE to image workstations that are hanging off of a Netgear Gb router, the speed at which the package transfers is precipitously slow. During normal network use computers work as expected, connecting at the Gb speed.

I'd like to use this router going forward so that I can increase the number of machines I can image concurrently, it's just that my desk is in an irregular spot in the Data Center, where I have access to only one wall drop.

I appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks very much for listening.

There are hundreds of end-users here at the facility. Router is consumer class 5-port Netgear GS605 v.2. This would have been helpful in my initial post, sorry guys.

What is the difference in timings when imaging 1 computer off the wall port directly compared to 1 computer via the switch? is the switch connecting at 1GB on the uplink port? what model of switch are you using?

PXE boot is always slow compared to most things. It uses TFTP with a 512 byte packet. If you have any latency at all it makes it even worse.

Now if it works slower with the router in the path than not then that is strange, its not like you are overload the router.

If you only goal is to increase the number of ports you have I would use the router as a switch...it would be even less likely to cause a issue.

Time difference between direct wall connect and through the router (5-port Netgear GS605 v.2) is significant. From the wall drop, entire image process for a single machine takes only 15 minutes as opposed to almost two hours when hanging off of the router.

I can throw images onto 10 workstations faster when processing consecutively than if I did 5 concurrently through the router. Other than when PXE'ing, network speeds are as advertised and the router works well enough for me to keep it around.
