I am upgrading and building a new computer. I haven't done this in years, but am very comfortable doing it. however I would like help in the order of setting up the hard drives. I am installing an ssd for my Win7 64bit os, then transfering data and programs from the older hd to a new one.
In what order should I handle this?
Thanks.

This is how I handled it.

1. Connect SSD.
2. Install Win7, it should recognize that its an SSD and disable defrag and all that.
3. Look up some SSD optimization guides and configure according to your preferences.
4. Connect HDD
5. Re-Install programs/transfer files, etc.

1. First, back up your files and settings using windows easy transfer. Make a note of those programs you need to reinstall later.
2. Install the ssd by itself on the new pc and install windows on it. Make certain the sata mode is ahci(not ide or raid)
Do not attach any other drives or windows will try to place a hidden recovery partition on it.
3. You can then reattach your hard drive and have access to all the files on it.
4. Use windows easy transfer to import all or part your files and settings.
5. Your programs will need to be reinstalled.
