hey guys this is a new build and the sound isn't working on it. ive also had some prior issues with stability with a lot of bluescreens but after updating the bios and resetting the cmos that seemed to fix itself.

anyways after reltek audio drivers are installed all i see in the sound menu is my samsung tv. none of hte retek drivers like i see on this pc :(.

i dont think i even see the supremefx onboard card in the device manager menus to update it.

anyways if anyone has any suggestions before i return it i'd appreciate it. actually a good board and love how fast the thing boots up but im scared it might be defective

Can you type out a parts list?

The stability problems are the first place to start. Usually comes down to memory configuration and or a poorly tuned overclock (where applicable) and sometimes due to running an old UEFI build.

If the system is not stable, device drivers can become corrupt. If we can work out what is causing the instability and fix it, then we can move on to reinstalling the OS and starting afresh.

The onboard sound may be disabled in bios? By "sound menu" you mean the on in control panel? The standard playback device is obviously set to hdmi at the moment. To get the onboard sound, you need to switch that in control panel / sounds / playback devices.

By default the onboard audio is enabled. I would have though the opening poster would not have disabled that and then found it strange no onboard audio device was showing up in the OS.

I think it is possible that HDMI has become the default device, so yes, you are correct, he should check out if the onboard audio shows up as a device and try enabling.

What concerns me more is the instability he cited in his post. There was no information at all whether or not he was able to fix that completely (I would check stability with a stress test myself) before stumbling into issues with onboard devices. The BSODs could have corrupt the drivers and if very severe perhaps the OS. And the system may not be fully stable even after the UEFI update, if more adjustments are needed. It's always difficult to help someone when the opening post is very sketchy on requisite information.

fast replay so sorry for the spelling and stuff hehe.
i'll be a bit more detailed tomorrow, about to hit the sack but here is a the part list rq asus maxiumus v formula mb, G.SKILL Sniper (1stick, some old ram out of my current pc), Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge 3.5GHz(using this as video card too for now), a vortex ssd, a 3t sergate hd not plugge din, 1 x SeaSonic X Series X-850, vary old dvd drive (was scared this could of been the problem but doesn't seem to be), and some old generic dell keyboard and log mouse(do got better keyboards on this pc). mostly just stuff to get the system up and running.

the bSOD were something like " IRQL not less or equal blue screen error" i was stumped for like 90 mins y but i hit the reset cmos and the problem went away. before that i installed the asus mobo suite in windows 8 and i could use my mouse or keyboard after that so i just did a system refresh to fix it then i updated the bios and downloaded the software off the website and stuff worked after that, well till the chain reboots.

now that i think about it i did try to install windows 7 on a 2nd partition and was getting a lot of the IRQL bsod too. when i hit the cmos reset though that went away and windows 7 oem went on good. figured i try another os outto see if it's just comparability issues iwth windows 8. but the thing is windows 7 after i installed it had the same issues with the sound so i know it's not corrupt drivers.

anyways i think one thing i will do is get a good stresser tomorrow. got any suggestions? guessing prime

Do you have a part number for the memory modules please? If they are not Z77 qualified, they might need some voltage and timing adjustments. IRQL is usually memory instability or a faulty driver. In your case I am leaning towards the former.

Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR2

in my current pc i got ot say those things were a pain to install as it kept amping the votage up to 1.5 rather than 1.25 and i found putting hte mhz down to 1500 fixed the Stability problems . i don thtink i'll ever get low votage ram again after that :)

actually if i can figure out the votage in this pc i might check that in the bios. unlike my last build, thought for sure though that these rams worked with z77.

okay i was looking at the bios and auto was setting the voltage to 1.35. i lowered it down to 1.25 manually and so far 10 mins of prime 95 and no bsod. cpu temps with prime are about 60-65 (just normal heatsink for now hehe)guess it's pretty stable for now. still no sound though ;(

Check you have not disabled sound in UEFI. By default it is enabled, but you may have toggled it off by accident. If it is enabled already, try re-installing Windows. If that does not fix it, I would RMA the board and try another.

might be a little over techy for me but what is UEFI? i know for sure in the bios the sound card is enabled but if it's something like past that in the boot up process i probably dont know the slang for that. might need a little article how to access it and junk hehe.

the RMA paperwork is already filled out but i'll check that as one last thing. dont have time to really send it till about this wendsday or thursday :)

I had the same problem with this board and my Samsung TV after installing a gtx 780 card. I re-installed windows 7, and updated everything first, then got new drivers from nvidia for graphics card. Solved my problem. Also don't install all the crapware that comes with the board, just what you need or will use. Most of it is a p.i.t.a. if you did install it however, check your notifications for a new little speaker icon, and make sure HDMI is your default output. Hope this helps.

i ended up getting a maximus v gene from amazon and it's great but i do wish it had more expansion slots. should of stuck with the over priced mobo hehe.

new pc is great but i dont think i put it to it's full potential as im mostly just playing lol all the time :)
