Can I activate Windows 8 upgrade version with the original product key once I erased and formatted the previous drive with the windows on it? I will then install Windows 7 and then use the Windows 8 install and install the original serial. Will this work? Thanks

As far as the upgrade version goes, you should be able to install without the Windows 7. As i am able to install without Win 7 and direct to 8. try it and see.

HI Atomicwar, i agree, its not always guaranteed to work, but it is worth a shot. I have found that even though i work in an IT retail store, and have not found any problems when loading Win 8 retail version even though it is an upgrade version.
