I am thinking of upgrading my gaming pc, the motherboard, processor and ram is outdated ddr2 stuff so I will be replacing those. I have a ATI HD 5800 series graphics card which I will keep and a 550 Watt PSU. What kinds of components is recommended? And since I have a ATI graphics card would a AMD procssor run better with it? I would like to upgrade the components without replacing the PSU.

what is your budget....also i highly recommend you get a new power supply. capacitor wear will degrade it over time and it is now likely no capable of its original out put (especially if its older then three years). it would stink to fry a brand new system because you tried to save on a power supply (the singular most import component in a PC IMO)
