Hi i recently bought a HDMI cable and was thinking is there any reason i bought this as it probably isn't going to work as i have seen people on other websites saying that you need an adapter/converter?

My graphic card is 7870 xt. And it has 1x dvi, 1x hdmi and 2x mini display port.

I am wanting to setup a second monitor but i can only do it through HDMI or a mini display port.

I am wondering do i need an adapter/converter? My monitor is VGA and the connection im trying to get is HDMI for my second monitor

BOTH OF MY MONITORS ARE VGA *had a confusion here* sorry.

THIS IS MY GPU and as you can see it only has 1 dvi so what do i use for second monitor?

and the cables i have spare for my second monitor are:

VGA to DVI ( but there is no DVI spot for the second monitor ) - I have a spare cable = i have 2 vga to dvi cables.

VGA to HDMI ( Spare Slot ) - Got Cable

2 MINIPORT ( Spare Slot ) -- Don't have the cable for that.

So should i just get a DVI to HDMI adapter/converter as i have the cable for it?

Thanks for any help

I think the most importent info is missing here. You say one of your monitors has vga only? And the other one? The dvi port of your card is a dvi-i port and carries the analog vga signal plus the digital. A simple dvi-i-to-vga cable will do that. A digital to analog adapter, like hdmi-to-vga is always a bad solution, because the quality will be weak.

Sorry, Both of my monitor's are VGA and im guessing they are both analog and on 1 (main) monitor i am using VGA TO DVI and the second monitor isn't doing anything but is also a VGA. I have an option to use the HDMI or a minidisplay port on the GPU so which should i use? Also if that is bad should what is the best thing to do? I only have 2 spaces for mini port and 1 space for hdmi.
