Hello everyone,

I have a problem that bugs me quite a lot, I'll try to explain it as best as I can.

Situation of the PC:

- I7 3930k @ 4.4 Ghz

- Fresh install of Windows 7 ultimate x64 on 1 SSD (OCZ vertex 4 128Go), all drivers updated, all windows updates installed, bit defender antivirus.

- 2nd SSD for data (OCZ vertex 4 256Go)

- 3rd HD for data (Seagate 3To)

- Bios UEFI setup correctly, all hardware running smoothly

Symptoms:

When starting the machine, everything is fine, Windows 7 starts, when desktop appears (takes 20 to 30 sec), even though I can start my browser (Chrome) and browse through my files, whenever I start a program, it launches but freezes, windows gadget don’t appear as well. After +/- 1 minute, everything launches and my Windows 7 runs smoothly.

Could anyone help me understand and get rid of this 1 minute period when I can’t launch programs?

Many thanks,

Dave.

yeah its windows finishing loading all the resources. this is normal...you can help the issue by going into msconfig on your start menu search. then choose start up tab...you'll see all the programs that load on start up. unchecking them will disable them on boot and speed up your boot time. note anything by Microsoft or your virus scan leave alone.

In the Run window(Windows logo key + R) type msconfig.cfg and press enter in the opened window go to the startup tab then discard the programs that you don't want to run at start up, it will hel.

Tried your recomandations but didnt change a thing. And after a clean Win 7 install, there were not that many programs in the startup tab anyways.

What I don't understand is that, after this 1 minute "lag" everything is super fast (ssd + hexacore cpu!!!). Feels like I got a virus so after thoroughly scanning all SSDs and HDD, I reinstalled completely and the problem is still there. Anyone faced (and resolved) this problem?

Thank you for your answers.

I finally found the solution : after looking up at many things, I noticed in the startup tab of msconfig that a program was “imminently starting up” or something (don’t remember the exact term) during the hang phase. I unselected it, applied, restarted and the problem was gone…

The name of the program you ask? ASUS FAN CONTROL!!! Can’t believe an Asus program would bug my windows startup so bad.

Tested by rebooting around 10 times, the problem never occurred again with Asus fan control unselected.

Have a bug-free day everyone!
