Hi guys,

So my power supply has just blown, this is my current faulty one - http://www.scan.co.uk/products/550w-powercool-modular-80-plus-80-eff-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-fan-cooling-dual-rail-atx-22-psu

and I need a more suitable replacement to run a machine with these components,

Intel Core i5 2300 s1155
ASUS P7H55D-M PRO S1156 MOBO
16gb ram
Nvidia GTX 570 evga classified graphics card

Im not massively computer literate and any advice you guys have is welcomed.

I dont want to replace the power supply with the same model if its not going to be good or powerful enough,

Hope someone can offer me some assistance please!

Thanks

GeForce GTX 570

On your average system the card requires you to have a 600 Watt power supply unit. Source - http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-570-review/8 Go for either one of these two

Hi Bigcyco1,

Thank you for answering! Just a quick question pls, your 2 suggestions for suitable replacements, there is no compatibility issues with these options? Theyll fit my machine ok? Sorry if Im coming across as ignorant, just want to be sure before going ahead with buying one,
Thanks :D

Hi - No compatibility issues with those PSU's. cyco recommended a couple of
good units.

Hey Toyftw,

Is whether or not they're modular important? and are the 2 recommended modular?

Thanks :D

For a system using a single GeForce GTX 570 graphics card NVIDIA specifies a minimum of a 550 Watt or greater system power supply that has a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 38 Amps or greater and that has at least two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Total Power Supply Wattage is NOT the crucial factor in power supply selection!!! Total Combined Continuous Power/Current Available on the +12V Rail(s) rated at 45°C - 50°C ambient temperature, is the most important factor.

Overclocking of the CPU and/or GPU(s) will require an additional increase to the maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current ratings, recommended above, to meet the increase in power required for the overclock. The additional amount required will depend on the magnitude of the overclock being attempted.

Your dead Powercool 550W Modular Power Supply (PSUPC550AUBAM), with its maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of less than 32 Amps and with two (6+2)-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors, doesn't meet NVIDIA's system power supply requirement to power your system configuration with a single GeForce GTX 570 graphics card.

The XFX 650W XXX Edition Semi Modular (Bronze) (P1-650X-XXB9), with its maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 53 Amps and with four (6+2)-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors, is way more than sufficient to power your system configuration with a single GeForce GTX 570 graphics card.

Hi again - Neither of those linked PSU's are modular. Being Modular is not a performance
enhancement. Modular PSU's advantage lies in cable management. The cables are not
hard wired into the psu, so you attach only the cables you require, which yields a less
cluttered interior in the case. Besides being visually more appealing, it should improve air flow.
