Ps3 upgrade HDD to SSD

Hi guys, I was wondering how long an SSD will last in a PS3. I play 5-10 games max. Im aware that SSDs have limited writes, but i dont play too many games, and i heard a larger capacity makes them last longer. I was considering 128GB for the capacity. I was thinking about getting western digital brand. Or should I just buy the momentus xt hybrid?

Why? The SATA interface inside the PS3 is no where near fast enough to take advantage of an SSD. The system also writes all kinds of data to the HD would could wear it down. I would get a cheap $60 500GB and be done with it. You'll see no advantage of a SSD in a PS3.

wrong. the sata interface is twice as fast in both directions than a typical conventional hd. (real world sata1 is 130MB/s)
the advantages of ssd over hd are:
less heat and sound and vibration generated. faster loading, texture streaming, installing and deleting.

That article seems to support my point more than yours.

"The PS3 can't stream data quickly enough by virtue of the fact that data needs to be buffered, and RAM is a finite resource on console. The PS3 obviously doesn't support TRIM either. "


Most test show it doesn't give much of a gain and considering you could get a 500-750gb 7200RPM drive for the price of a small SSD, it doesn't seem worth it.

You seem to miss the point of him saying that. He suggests finding old "out-dated" SSD's at a great bargain [and probably with performance tapering] because while "The PlayStation 3 can't access ultra-fast SSD speeds", it apparently can handle speeds WAY faster than even the 7200rpm drives are capable of. SO, the poser suggests finding an old, used SSD on the cheap to improve your system. I think it's a great idea, there are a lot of people getting rid of their 120Gb and smaller to replace with the newer, better $/gig drives, and you can find them REALLY cheap if the seller isn't a jerk.
