1600 Mhz RAM on 1066 Mhz supported board

I just bought this new mobo - Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 which supports 1066 Mhz RAM natively and 1333 Mhz with O.C

Now, I mistakenly bought a Corsair Vengeance 1600 Mhz 4GB RAM with it and now I am wondering if it would run on the above mentioned mobo.

Please advise.

Yep it will work with no problem. It will however downclock it to the default of the motherboard. You can then overclock it back up to 1333MHz easily. And if you put a solid OC on the CPU, you might even be able to get it back up to 1600MHz.

I just installed CPU-Z and it shows that my RAM is clocking in at 669.6 Mhz.

It's a corsair vengeance 4 GB 1600 Mhz RAM running on this mobo - http://www.gigabyte.in/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4305#sp

I had thought that it would automatically underclock itself to 1066, but it has gone down further

Could you please explain why this is happening and how I can clock it up to 1066 Mhz

okay..looked a bit further and I think it's showing the right value actually

669.6 Mhz x 2 = 1339 Mhz (Double Data Rate)

Is that correct?

Probuddha... U have single channel memory and its showing 669 mhz..... But if u use two ram...that is dual channel....then shows 669 mhz each.....
