Hello,

I would like to upgrade my desktop and laptop from Windows Vista to Windows 8. Currently my Laptop is broken and wont even start up, some sort of system errors and I can even fix it with WinRE.

I had a few quesitons.

1.Do I need to purchase 2 separate upgrade discs for Windows 8? Or can I use 1?

2. Does it use my current Windows Vista license key when upgrading?

3. Does the upgrade wipe the hard drive clean and do a new install of Windows 8? Or should I wipe the hard drive before myself?

1. win 7 and vista use the same architecture, so you should be able to jump straight to windows 8 if you like.
2. Yes and no. It requires the current license to upgrade, but it will change the license to a windows 8 within the disc.
3. no, only a fresh install will wipe the hdd. I would wipe it because whenever you upgrade, some crap left behind from vista might still be there, which in turn may cause conflicts.

for 2 systems you would need 2 licenses(with separate keys).

The Vista keys will not work for Windows 8.

From Vista, the upgrade can keep settings, but you will need to re-install any applications(you probably would want to backup your files and do a clean instal).

1. Yes
2. Yes. That Vista license will now be null and void.
3. If you're doing the Upgrade, it has to see the previous (Vista) install. So leave it there. After it is done, you'll have a folder called Windows.Old, containing some of the stuff from your previous install.
(There is a method to do a clean install from an Upgrade disk, but it is more complicated)
