hi guys, i'm davy and i'm having some troubles with this issues, i'm not sure is flickering/strppling is the name for this issues but...

first of all my specs:
CPU: phenom II 555 unlocked to X4 and OC at 3.655 GHz
MOBO: ASUS m5a88m
IGPU: raden hd 4250 OC 915 MHz (with latest drivers)
VGA monitor: viewsonic VA1938 for 1366x768
i think those are the most important...

ok so, i like to play and all is nice, even i'm surprised with the performance of this IGPU, i have no problem with old games (like resident evil 4, silent hill 4, even bioshok, and other ones) all is nice fast and clear, the problem beggins since i installed the GTA IV i play the game with much better graphics than other guys with the same spcs (of cours due my OC) but some textures of the cars, lights, (i can say shadows but i'm not sure cose i'm not playing with them on), commercials ads, and buildings with a reasonable distance beggins to strippling just like in this link, very similar

this is A.K.A texture flickering, of course the less the distnace, less the strippling is till it disappears...

ok with GTA IV this issue is not a big dial with me, still the game very playable
the real trouble is when i try to play ace combat assault horizon, the same happends but since the distances between ground and building, and you is so great all things disappears in big streaps and as if the game had a lot of pop up, so in this case the "texture flickering" makes this game unplayable ):

i dont have buy much new games till now but i'm very worried about this issue, i dont want to buy games that i cant play...

to solve it i try a lot of thing the first one was to quit the OC (of the HT link and IGPU) the issue improved a little but stills...
i try changing the drivers with newer, with the ones of the CD of the MOBO, and all the same

so here are my questions that a im sure that everione that suffers this issue have:

i'm not sure that is couse by IGPU hd 4250, so this could be an issue of the CPU, drivers, games, MOBO or some other thing?
is there a way to fix it?
if i buy a newer GPU (i try a HD7750) the issue will continue (i know it sound logic but i have my doubts) or it could be better to choose a nvidia one?

i hope you understand my english, sorry for the bad spelling and grammar... but 'till now i couldn't find an answer

so thank you very much, "much as grass se as" guys

Solution
your gpu isn't meant for gaming, so you are asking it to do things it cannot. gta 4 is pretty demanding. a new gpu would help, and you mentioned a 7750, which is about the lowest card i would recommend, but it will help your performance greatly.

oooh, thanks for your reply daswilhelm... well i thought so since the beggining, and i know that is a miracle that i can play such demanding games with "well" graphics i just thought that this issue could be induced by another thing such as software or OC...

So in principle, if i upgrade my GPU, i wont have this issue any longer?

i know that a hd7750 is not a big deal, but since i dont have a psu with 6 pin PCIE conector and with the power demmand of my phenom II (like 160W -_-) i think that that card is the best option unless i buy a better PSU to, am i right? or there is a better option on nvidia plataform? i mean a low consumtion GPU card

+ i wont spend much money
+ my monitor is just a 768p
+ i`m not an exigent gamer (plus i have a lot of old games to play)

and again, thanks a lot :)

ondanoalf: thanks for your answer well my real worry is with ace combat, i give a damn GTA 'cose is very playable...

to help anyone else with this problem i have a way to fix.... yes is a software issue... all who have an ati card also have the CCC software, inside there is the catalyst A.I. if you disable this option problem fix :D
but in case of GTA... i have aanother problen and is worse!!!

the game presents some point in the transparent textures and/or reflective objects, not all....

in ACE combat the issue fix fine... but the texture quality stills look awful

i still wander if this kind of issues is due to my low GPU and the game automaticly sets the low quality textures...
in GTA may be the patch i use... but this is tom's hardware, not tom's software

so thank's again :)

hi!! excuse me for revive this thread

but since this has 250 veiws, for all that people who has the same issue, i have the answer

as pleople from here had said, getting a new GPU would fix the texture flickering and it works, i improve my system with a HD7770 vapor x, i taste the ace combat AH looks awesome with AA @ 60 FPS, really works great, i dont taste GTA IV 'till now, but i'm sure i will be able to play it on max setting (with help of a command line for the mem restriction) without problems
