i use a intel 3470 with a CM 212 evo cooler and get 40 - 51 in idle tempratures
i live in sri lanka.. domestic air is like 30 -35...

im kinda worried about these temps.. i looked into some forums and most of them said that 3470 should run at 28-34 degrees...

thanx in advance :)

Did you try to reinstall the cm hyper 212 evo. Clean all the thermal compound off the cpu and the evo with a little isopropyl alcohol on a lint free cloth or coffee filter. Then put a dot of the thermal compound in the middle of the cpu a little smaller than the size of a pea. I don't spread it with anything I just let the weight of the cpu cooler spread it. See if that works if not try installing the cpu cooler that came with the i5 3470 because really it should work just fine for an i5 3470.

I think your cpu cooler is not seated properly. It should not idle at such temp even when using the pre-applied thermal paste.

Also check if the heatsink base is really flat. Some heatsink could have slightly concave base due to production error.

I don't know exactly why but I've heard you cant cool below ambient temps so those temps don't surprise me. I suggest trying what strife_ff7 recommended and if your temps aren't any cooler go ahead and make sure that your temps aren't too high and if all goes well there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Sometimes you have to reinstall because something went wrong the first time you installed. Like the cooler isn't flush with the cpu, the thermal compound didn't spread right or something got in the compound like dust or hair. The cm evo is really for overclocking a cpu but if the room you're in is hot it could be needed. The stock cooler should be able to get the i5 3470 temps under 40c idle. So first try to reinstall the cm evo then if that doesn't work try the stock cooler. If both don't work then you need to RMA the i5 3470 to get a replacement.

Does it get that hot in your room? My room in the summer gets about 27c and I have a cm evo with an i5 2500k overclocked to 4.2ghz and it idles at about 33c. The more important temps would be the temps under full load if they're above 70c something is wrong. Download prime95 and run the stress test if the temps go over 70c you should try the things I suggested earlier.
