hi im connecting the HIS 7970 ghz edition to my tv via HDMI

however there is no sound and no picture going through to the TV. The catalyst control center recognizes the tv as it displays the panasonic TV however im fiddled with pretty much every option and it just stays blank...

I decided to do a sound test atleast to make sure atleast some data was getting through to the tv but no sound either - could it be that my TV does not support information from a computer? or am i missing something

right so i just ran a test it makes no sense but maybe somebody can shed some light on this

The problem is the cable

Im using a 5m cable from my comp to my TV and it does not work however when i connect the shorter cables i.e. 1m and 2m it works.

I ran a few more tests to determine if it was the length and i got a wierd result.... i used the same 5 meter cable to connect my monitor to my comp and it worked... so this means the cable is not broken however theres some kind of incompatability between then tv and pc when using the 5 meter cable

any ideas?

Hi, just in case you've missed something try;

1. Connect PC to TV with HDMI cable using the first HDMI port of the card if it has 2 HDMI ports, usually the one upward/and or closest to the exhaust outlet.
2. Chose the TV HDMI channel number the PC is using.

It should come up automatically.

Right click on your desktop / screen resolution. Is the TV recognized with it's native resolution? Is it set to clone mode? click "identify". Do you see the number on the screen? Did you select the right hdmi input on the TV?
Right click on the volume icon in the task bar / playback devices. Is hdmi set as the default device?

oh ok nevermind what i said above, 5meters is still quite short for hdmi. I'm not sure exactly why the monitor is picking up a signal, all i can guess is the monitor's signal detection maybe stronger.

Have you tried other hdmi ports on the tv?

When making tv the only display, cloning etc is not relevant. Sound will also be present when the picture is. It's a packaged deal when setting a one display with sound. If no picture something else is wrong and obviously no sound a long with it.

yeah i made sure to try both ports... i just cant seem to figure out why the 5m cable is working for the monitor but not the Tv.. im just about to pop out and buy a new cable and check if there is any change.. i know it makes no sense to do this but the issue makes no sense either

How old is the cable you're using and does it comply with the tv? Check with the tv specs that it is compatible with the hdmi cable version, ie; 1.2, 1.3 etc. Think the 7970 is v1.4 and backwards compatible and looks like the monitor is too, but just make sure the tv is compatible before you buy another cable.

Edit; Get minimum 1.3a hdmi spec cable and make sure its well constructed. Not all hdmi cables are the same and depending how well it's made will make all the difference over several meters. Albeit, it still boggles me how the monitor is able to view picture though, that's strange.

That is simple not true. Sound has to be switched from/to hdmi separately.
