Ok heres the deal. I have an HTC One X and I want to connect it to a WiFi router and let the network use my phones internet. Why I am trying to do is keep my gaming rig and personal server connected while giving them both internet. I cannot do this via the WiFi hotspot on my phone.

If you really want a router your best bet is cradlepoint. Most their router though are designed to directly take the sim or use data cards based on USB. SOME models of android phones can be tethered but you would have to dig to find which router and which phones. This is the expensive way to do it.

I would pick up a cheap router than can run in client/bridge mode or buy a dedicated wireless bridge. You would then put you phone in hotspot mode and put in near the bridge. You would then cable the bridge to the wan port on your other router.

While phones have come a long way from what they used to be this is still going to be pretty complicated. One way of attempting this would also be what's known as "reverse tethering" which requires some special software setups and uses your existing network and a computer as your gateway to your phone via USB.

Also you should read up on your Data Plan ToS, if you have one of the major carriers you may be spending more out of pocket than you would with a traditional ISP and some will even throttle your bandwidth back after they see large amounts of data traffic on your line. Prepaid services will also throttle back speeds after 2GB of monthly useage. I certainly recommend being on top of that information before I would game off of a cell phone and I wouldn't expect to have the greatest latency either.

I live in the sticks with my parents. I am 16. I pretty much have control over our internet setup. I am a gamer. I HAVE to game off my phone because the Latency on Hughesnet is HORRID. I'm talking 5k ping AT BEST. This is b/c it's satellite which you prob already know.

What I am trying to do it be able to have my Gaming PC/Server hand in hand b/c I want to do auto backups to the server. But at the same time I want to be able to access the web and it would be awesome if I can just come home and hookup my phone via the usb cable to my router.

Btw. Regarding the Data ToS I have the thethering plan. Along with 10gigs of data usage. I have been gaming off of it for months now.

My Backup plan for this would be having the gaming pc and server side by side and running a data transfer line between the 2... This should work right? and when I need internet I can just turn the hotspot on or plug my phone into the gaming pc.
