Computer often won't boot

I've had an on off problem for a few months.

Sometimes when I boot it hangs around the time the Windows 7 flash screen would come up (though I've disabled the flash screen). When it hangs the screens (well 2 of 3) go dark grey (but still backlit). When I reboot the same thing tends to happen. If I try and windows start up repair that also hangs (the launching bar never starts to fill up).

Occasionally it'll boot into windows and hang a few seconds later (mouse can move but no icons work).

It'll happen 5-6 times in a row, then the computer might work perfectly for 2 weeks.

Is my SSD dying perhaps?

Have you tried reinstalling windows 7? I know most people avoid reinstalling the OS but if its possibly just a problem with the OS install rather than hardware that could point you in the right direction.

Do I need a fresh uninstall? Or can I use my windows disk to "overwrite" the windows files? If I do the latter, do I need to uninstall Service Pack 1 first (my disk is SP0)?
