New ASUS P8Z77-V PRO not to familiar with all the connections yet...
I have a WD 1TB HDD
a seagate 2TB and just recently a Samsung SSD

I have been running win 7 off the WD
I installed Win 7 onto this drive before I had this mobo so I had to change the Sata to IDE and not AHCI

If anyone is familiar with this board it has a bunch of Sata connectors:
Spoiler
2 x SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports (gray) with RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 support
4 x SATA 3.0 Gb/s ports (blue) with RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 support
Supports Intel, Smart Response Technology, Intel Rapid Start Technology, Intel Smart Connect Technology*

ASMedia PCIe SATA 6Gb/s controller**
2 x SATA 6Gb/s ports with port multiplier support
Supports on Intel Core™ processor family with Windows 7 operating systems.
**
These SATA ports are for data hard drives only. ATAPI devices
are not supported.

I currently have the Seagate 2TB (which is a 6gb drive) and the Samsung SSD into the two gray 6gb ports using two 6gb sata cables

I have the WD plugged into one of the blue 3gb ports using a sata cable

The WD will not boot from this port.. I get to the win 7 flag telling me it is loading then I get the "Failed to start" screen telling me to launch the "startup repair"

the WD is seen in the BIOS from any port

BUT if I then shutdown and plug the WD into the 6gb port it boots up fine and dandy....also if the WD is in the 3gb port it can be seen and accessed in "my computer" when I boot from the SSD

It seems to be just some kind of boot problem probably because im missing something with the ports or the BIOS

any help would be greeeat
thanks!

Hi, When installed Windows on the SSD, was SATA set to AHCI? Is it dual boot, or installed Windows with only SSD connected??

No I just installed Windows last night on the ssd it was still set to IDE
Also I had all the HDDs attached when I installed it onto the SSD
(buuut from what ive read im going to have to reinstall after setting IDE to AHCI because AHCI is better or faster for SSDs???)

I now have the SSD in the same port and using the same cable as the WD was
and the SSD starts up fine but I can not get the WD to boot from its new spot in the 3gb port

I should be able to boot either the SSD or WD when I start my computer right??? .. i thought so anyways

Here's how I would do it.
Firstly, with only the HDD connected SATA set to IDE, install the Intel SATA driver, then the Microsoft fix:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976
Then restart, set SATA to AHCI and check if all's OK.
If you want dual boot, leave the HDD connected and reinstall Windows on the SSD.
If not, leave only the SSD and install Windows on it (SATA set to AHCI).
In this case, you would use F8 for selecting the booting device.
