Keep getting BOOT MGR is missing

Hi,

Have been having this weird issue where, it's as though my SSD (has Windows on) goes to sleep and I have to wake it up again :)lol:). I'll sometimes get it on boot up, and annoyingly I can be half way through doing something and my PC will just shut down and when I boot it back up 'Boot MGR is missing' is on the screen.

Each time all I have to do to get back onto Windows again is turn it off, press F2 to enter Bios mode, and select to boot from the SSD.

Easy to fix, annoying when it happens. Any ideas of what is causing this? I run regular virus scans and have read that could be a cause of it but all is clear.

Thanks.

Edit 1: Running Windows 7.

Couple questions

How old is the system? Desktop or Laptop?

Do you have some kind of Power Saving plan active in Windows? To check in Windows 7:
Start - Control Panels - Power Options - Change Plan Settings - Change Advanced Plan Settings - Expand Hard Disk to see time if any
For now just set it to not turn off to test if thats the cause.

Have you done any kind of overclocking of your RAM or CPU?

Is the firmware for your SSD and BIOS up to date?

Have you ever defragmented your SSD drive? ( This is something that should not be done for SSD's)

honestly, something is wrong with your primary HD.
first thing first, check your cables (both to MoBo and power)
if thats good, then read on.

Have you removed any other internal HDs recently? most likely your boot sector is messed up. If you installed windows on the computer with more drives then just the C drive, then removed one of the drives, the computer refuses to boot because what it sees as a vital part of it is missing. place back all drives, flash included, into the computer that was in it when you first installed windows.

If it came with windows installed, and just started doing this then your computer may or may not have been incorrectly shut down and the computer did not have enough time or power to save the neccisary files and configurations resulting in a missing or corrupted boot sector.

It could be that your HD has failed... try plugging it inot another sata slot on your motherboard. OR you could always see (if you ahve another computer) if it will let you see the HD as an extra drive (it might try to tell you to format it, DONT)
If you can see the HD in another computer , a computer that has the operating system on a nother HD, then you know that your HD and files are safe, that that the error resides somwhere else... could the the sata ports on your MoBo, could be that the power wasnt socket fully. (on that thought, can you hear/see/feel the drive spinning? if so, then you know that it is getting power.... which actually... really doesnt tell much.. hmmm

try the above, and let us know the results.

Dhamilton: he cant get into windows. it would be impossible to answer and check Power Saving.

overclocking wouldnt have anything to do with his issue, unless the mobo has been fried through failed attemps to overclock...

on that note, can your bios see the HD?

also, "Is the firmware for your SSD and BIOS up to date" is not applicable...

also, defragmenting an SSD would not cause bootmgr issues.

He actually said that he can get into Windows once he goes into BIOS.
If he OCed anything without proper cooling or power it could manifest with a device not recognized.
Firmware for MB and SSD is applicable since he can get into Windows and then it faults.
It might all be wrong, I didn't state what the cause was. I asked questions to narrow scope and go from a general "this isnt working and this is my workaround" post to something that could be worked with.

Thanks for the responses. Nope, done no overclocking. Have been told by a IT Technician friend that everything is upto date (he built the PC).
Have gone to the Power options, Dhamilton and Hard Disk is set to never already. And no, never defragmented the SSD.

It's a very weird issue, as, as soon as I click to boot (after the Boot MGR message has come along and I've entered Bios to boot from the SSD) it's back to normal until the next time.
