A complete upgrade would be a better spent budget as most of the old parts you have can't be found anywhere in new condition and replacement don't exist anymore or are really overpriced...

I can suggest an A10-5800k with a good fm2 motherboard (about 200$ for both) + some 1600 or 1866 cl9 8gb kit for about 40-50$
you'll not need a GPU as the integrated 7660d is a lot faster than the 310 anyway...

You could pick a good PSU like the corsair CX430 for about 30$, a case that you want (depend on your toughts and styling you like) and re-use your HDD to save some bucks...

Your best use of funds will be to build a new system. I would suggest filling out the template in the "How to ask for new build advice" sticky so we have all the information we need (e.g. uses, budget, preferences, location) to make the most useful suggestions.

What is the main purpose of your PC?

What is your budget?

As a rule, it is not a great idea to upgrade very old technology.
But, if you choose to do so, I would only upgrade parts that are transportable to a complete new build.

If you are a gamer, you could install a stronger graphics card.
For desktop apps, how about a second monitor?

In general, putting the os and some apps on a 120gb ssd or larger will make everything you do much quicker.

Only things I'd keep from the old system is the case, possibly, and the CD drive.

After that you can get a decent system for about $500.
I'd say look for something about these costs.
i3-3xxx- $110
motherboard (LGA 1155)- $60 (any board that's got decent features, you don't need to overclock).
Memory 2x4GB (prices have skyrocketed recently)- $45 (look for deals with the CPU you can normally get it cheaper).
GPU- I wouldn't go lower than a 7770 but if you have the budget go up to a 7790 or 7850. $110 minimum
PSU- $40 (Corsair CX430)
Windows 7- $90
HDD- $50 (your computer is so old it has to have a small capacity and you can get a 500GB for that price).
If you really want you can reuse the case and CD/DVD drive (just make sure it's a SATA CD Drive and not an IDE or you'll need a new one, their only $18 and if you want a new case that's another $30-50 depending on what you like).

If you already have the HDD or Optical Drive or Case you can deduct those from the Build. If you do have a HDD and or Optical Drive ....
