Forgot how to overclock and Get 1:1 Memory:FSB Ratio

To make a long story short I had a hardware failure and in the process of fixing my rig I cleared my CMOS and reset my motherboard back to factory settings. I would like to overclock again but whatever brain cells I had when originally building my rig have died. I need assistance overclocking and getting a 1:1 ratio.

Here is the current pertinent hardware:

MOBO: Asus Striker Extreme 680i
CPU: Intel E6600 (2.4ghz, dual core)
MEMORY: Corsair Dominator DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) (4 1gb sticks)
CPU Cooler: I forgot but it a decent after market one.

Currently at stock I understand the following:

FSB = 1066Mhz (266.66 x 4)
Memory = 1066Mhz (533 x 2)
CPU Multiplier: 9x

Current Result: 9x266.666 = 2.4Ghz with a 1:1 FSB to Memory ratio.

I would like to get back to 3Gz.

I plan to do the following.

FSB: 1333Mhz (333.33 x 4)
Memory = "Unlink in bios" 1066Mhz
CPU Miltiplier: 9x

Result: 9x333.33 = 3.0Ghz
However, I think this is going to result in a 5:4 memory \ FSB ratio.

Is this a good approach or should I keep the memory linked in the bios which I expect would OC the memory to 666.66 (from 533)?

Again, I had this at 3.0 before and it ran great but I completely forgot what I messed with to do so.

you would need to set the memory back to 1066mhz but at 333mhz fsb so at 266 you need to set the 800 option as you will up the FSB to 333 it'll be set to 1000mhz (or better if you have the 1066mhz ratio in the 333 FSB)

The RAM/FSB ratio isn't that important as FSB increase, bandwith on his side increase and ram stay's at 1066mhz at 333mhz so you'll see gains from the increased FSB bandwith and lower latency and not to mention the CPU overclock that will do a lot too !!

Only 3ghz ?? you don't want to touch Vcore ?? I had the Q6600 (double E6600 paired together) 2.4ghz and i was at 4.05ghz (450X9) with 1066mhz ram oc to 1200...

The higher the FSB the faster your machine will be so i recommend to do (if possible) 400X8 --> 3.2ghz as it...

Thanks for the prompt response.

Just so I hear you correctly....
Option 1
1) Go with my solution to get 3.0ghz (1333 fsb), the FSB ratio isn't that big of a deal.
2) Just make sure to keep the memory locked at 1066.

Option 2
1) "unlinking" the memory so that it will stay at 1066
2) setting FSB to 400
3) Dropping the multiplier to 8 (or 7 if it gets too hot \ unstable).

Yea, I am not too keen on touching the VCore and if I remember correctly when I was at 3.0Ghz I was hitting temps (full load) around 50 - 52 deg. Celsius. The 3.2 might be the best I can hit with my current cooling solution.

Exactly !!! if you don't want to touch the Vcore, i would try 3ghz with 333fsb as the higher the FSB the more likely the cpu would need more voltage on the VTT and/or on the Vcore so to be safe let that at 333 and set unlinked and 1066mhz, you'll be happy anyway over the stock settings ;)

Oh hell yea, I totally miss the 3GHz. It is quite noticeable. I was happy with the 3Ghz so if I can get back there again, all good.

Thanks again for confirming and suggesting. I guess I do have a few functioning brain cells up there somewhere :)
