Hello all, I will be attempting to build my own PC for almost exclusively gaming and would like the help of this great community. This is a first build for me and have a few questions/clarifications that I will list with my build. I am not the most computer savvy person in the world but have been doing some research for about a week on my build and this is what ive come up with pending a review here before I order anything. My budget is $800 or as low as I can get and im currently at around $750 or so (Thanks Outlander_04). Id like to purchase as soon as possible again pending reviews.

OS= Windows 8 64 bit (oem system builder)
Im electing to use windows 8 as per suggestion by Outlander_04 as when I read the license agreement for windows 8 it seems more builder friendly than the oem for 7 which they technically state for personal use a full version is required for windws 7 but not 8. (I know many just use the oem 7 system builder but I have read some horror stories from people that had a rough time once they upgraded their computers. )

Case= Cooler Master HAF 922
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119197

Processor= AMD FX-6300
I selected due to only $130 and considered it to be a good choice for price. I do not multitask and will only be playing games with this build but couldnt find an intel processor that i felt was as strong for around the same price/cheaper in i5 as I want to stick to either fx 6300 or an equal/better i5.

Motherboard= ASUS M5A97 R2.0http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131873
1. Im concerned as to if this board will indeed support 1600mhz memory and if its also a correct option for my processor. I read some reviews that confused me on being compatible with 1600mhz memory. I also chose this board as it listed 3 chasis fan connectors which is what im going with for my case and did not know if this was standard on all motherboards or would be good for my case.

2. Also, will this motherboard allow OC'ing?

Memory= G.Skill Ripjaws x-series 8gb (2 x 4gb) DDR3 SDRam 1600 mhz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428
Went with this bcause it came with a combo with my case HAF 922.

Video Card= Nvidia Geforce GTX 660 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125443
I tried to get the best card for my buck and decided to go heavy on my budget on this card.

PSU= CORSAIR Builder Series CX600 600W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028
3. Is this enough power for my build?

HDD= Western Digital 7200rpm 16mb 500gb
4. There was very little price difference in the 250gb so I went with 500. I do not need much storage space so I went with this choice. I was confused as to if I should buy 64mb cache HDD as for games that is HDD intensive this would be better or no?

Optical Drive= ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204
5. I opted for bulk version as im not sure what cables/connectors I will need is this correct?

My biggest concern is that everything here is compatible with each other. I cant really upgrade anything here unless its for same/lower price. My second priority would be to try if possible to cut costs but maintain at least the same level of build. I appreciate all and any help. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your input but unfortunately Im tapped on budget and the options you listed would increase my budget to a point I could not accept. I am probably however going to invest in a cpu fan as im not sure if stock would be ok. From what ive read the case I chose HAF 922 with its built in 3 fans provide a really good airflow for cooling.

The only difference between a 970 and 990 chipset is the number of pci-e lanes . 990 for crossfire or sli . 970 if you will only use one graphics card . You are fine to OC on that mb

Normally you would use the oem version of win 7 . Its the same software with a different set of licensing conditions . But IMO use win 8 64 bit. It takes 10 minutes to make it look and behave just like 7 and still have all the improvements . It also has a much better license than oem 7 .

I would take the 7870 over the nVidia card too , but the 660 is fully compatible

Thank you very much for your answers. I will indeed look in to making windows 8 operate like 7 as my mother just bought a new computer with 8 on it and I felt like I was in 1st grade trying to show her how to use it but I was lost. I will look in to the 7870 again but I believe that card was around a hundred dollars more but ill recheck. Ill read more on th oem licenses too. Again, thanks for your answers

EDIT: I must have looked at the 7870 wrong as its only about 20 dollars more, is it worth it for the extra money or will the 660 be pretty close?

I just got through reading the oem license agreements for windows 8 and also watched a video regarding making it navigate and behave like 7 and I believe I will go with windows 8 like you suggested. By also being able to select the oem system builder option that saves me almost $70, thank you ever so much!

I used a free start button program called Classic Shell .
Google should find it for you .

Others like Start 8 . You pay a few dollars for that
