My friend has this issue with GFWL and he will install it, try any game, and then it tells him to update [Works fine, but no online. -old version-] so he updates it. After the update he starts any GFWL game and then GFWL doesn't appear and Home doesn't show ... then he re-installs it only to Re-experience the issue again, and Again. :??:

Edit: Me and my friend tried looking up the issue WE had no luck please do your best to aid us.

It says when it trys to load C:/Windows/System32/xlive.dll
as a game launches it fails to launch and shows error codes for different games
Batman AC = 0x80070003
GTA IV = 0x80151007, 0x8015191b, 0x800702dc

So idk if this is useful, but that may help, he has 30 errors from today and the past ever since his Xlive began to fail.

(btw the game launches and the Xlive splash doesn't show but the game runs, but can't use Xlive and these codes only show up in EventVeiwer (not in a error window after game launch)

0x80151007
0x800702dc Hopefully the two links will shed some light on your friends gaming problems. I usually filter the event viewer by critical and error.

Sorry but those links were a little irrenlevent, as the first is about something my friend tried about 100 000 times, link 2 was GTA IV crashing not an xlive issue.

so thanks but anything else we could try?

Edit: "I usually filter the event viewer by critical and error." well we only found xlive info/issues in event viewer in subcategory "Warnings".

uninstall all games for windows live games, and GFWL also, then run a good registry cleaning program (Ccleaner), delete all game(s) directories in program files, program files(x86), programdata, then reinstall one game and see if it works. You may have tried something close to this already. If so, i'm out of ideas other than a clean install of windows. sorry and good luck.

Well we will try those, So far the biggest thing we tried is uninstalling GFWL, Live Sign In Assiestent, Microsoft Framework.Net (all of them), Sliverlight, and some other thing. Oh and he uses Ccleaner.

I just got done posting a lengthy fix guide on the steam forums because someone could not use GFWL with GTAIV. The issue was the app did not appear on game start and prevents someone from playing that game.
Link to my steam post: http://steamcommunity.com/app/12210/discussions/0/86495...

Scroll to bottom. Look for the yellow Dragon coat of arms. Cant miss the post its a long as the bible.

I solved my game specific issue by verifying the install file bundled with the game from steam was bad, even after a restart.

Let me be clear, in my entire life in I.T. my experience tells me that a small app like Games For Windows Live should not require you to reinstall your operating system much less all that other crap.

Hit this link up- http://www.xbox.com/en-US/LIVE/PC/DownloadClient

Watch the installer it should detect your current installation. You should see it update your installation.

My experience solving my problem with the same operating system your running Windows 7 64bit edition was the fresh installer from Microsoft not the steam bundle got the job done.

What information you failed to provide was the CONTEXT what caused you to start looking for this fix? New game install ect.

I saw the app working immediately in GTAIV once i used this new installer.

Things to keep in mind:

There is a network connection being requested and needs to be made for your sign in for Windows Live to work.

FYI either pull down your firewall then put it back up after your done signing in, or make an exception.

So once you get the app working in your game and it shows up you might not be out of the woods yet.

Also you may not be running your game in compatibility mode or administrator mode.

What compatibility mode you should use depends on when the game came out. For GTAIV for example that would be WIN XP SP 3 or WIN VISTA SP 2 based on the date. I got the recommendation from the provided readme.

No readme? compare the year the game came out with the version of windows out that was MOST STABLE.

Here is the NETWORKING TRIAGE - not my work but useful
FROM LINK: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=...

I have ALWAYS had problems connecting to GFWL, from all games, and the problem is ALWAYS when it tries to download my profile; I can login correctly (confirming that the game can "see" the GFWL server), but as soon as it tries to get the profile, it hangs for a minute before I get the same generic unhelpful error message.

I was able to triage and fix this myself, and you may be experiencing the same problem I was. I use Cisco VPN Client to connect to my work PC from time to time at home; as part of the install, Cisco VPN Client will override your default MTU setting ON EVERY NETWORK ADAPTER. In my case, it brings the MTU down to 1360; that's fine for the virtual adapter the VPN client uses to tunnel into my work PC, but for my net connection there is no need to adjust the MTU. Once I set the internet adapter MTU back to its optimal setting (in my case, 1500), the profile downlaods straight away, everytime. I'm not going to try and explain what an MTU is here, google the phrase "What is my optimal MTU" and it might help - it will involve a registry hack and probably a reboot but might be worth looking into.

This is a lot of information however it should help.

My guide on windows live fix for GTA IV : http://steamcommunity.com/app/12210/discussions/0/86495...

Networking Triage guide I copy pasted here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=...

Have fun
