I have two PCs --call them A and B--, A is connected wirelessly to the router and B is connected to A through an ethernet cable using built-in ethernet adapters, this setup was working fine for quite sometime but recently B has stopped gaining internet access it just keeps trying to identify the network but it gets no information such as ip,gateway, dns. I have tried many different things such as:

{1} assigning my own information for the network but it still wont access internet it just says "unidentified network",

{2} I have even tried to change the mac address of the etherent adapter on B, which I read about on a forum but no success.

{3} I tried using another laptop to connect to B but I get the same thing.

{4} I tried a different ethernet cable but still no use.

What's wrong?

Thanks in advance :)

some routers i know offer termination correction, where you can use a patch cable and the router will automatically convert it to a crossover, this however i have not seen with Computers, windows is dumb and doesn't tell you that you need a crossover cable to achieve this successfully, try a crossover cable instead and follow the common "HowTo" on ICS again, see if that fixes it.

What is a crossover cable? is that another name for ethernet cable? and my second pc is too far from my router that's why I connected it to my first PC via Ethernet.

sorry for the late reply...

a crossover cable is a special cable that enables direct PC to PC communication, looking very similar to a patch cable except some wires are swapped at one end. This will be what you need for your shared internet to work. you can find this at Radio Shack.

Gigabit ports are all autosensing, even the ones on PC/Laptops. Assuming, of course, that the OP has Gigabit ports. The fact that it was working, and then stopped, indicates a problem in the PC doing the sharing.
