would cat 5e cable throttle my gaming experience?

I've been taking a A+ certification course and have been trying to improve my computer as much as possible with the knowledge I've acquired. So I don't care so much about downloading videos or music particularly fast, but when I game I often have a bad ping, and figured that it might be because my ethernet cable is too low grade. I realize the games shouldn't be too demanding, but I figured why not. So is cat5e a concern for any games?

I started checking my network cables to see what version they were, and sure enough they were all cat 5e. I was about to upgrade them, but then I realized, this is one of those shitty apartments where they built a stupidly complex cabling system right into the wall, and that cabling system is all cat5e.

So knowing all of this, the only solution I can think of is to have the cable company come down and setup another modem in my room and make them install the newest cat 6 cables.

Welcome to Toms forum. The cat 5e cable is fine for an internet connection and will not determine your ping. The ping that you get is determined by the server that you connect to, where it is and what the routing is for the signal. Your cable company does have something to do with it also as to how their system is configured.
There are different quality Ethernet cables and Monster cable is a good example as they advertise different bandwidth capabilities for some of their cables. I use a monster cat 6 cable to connect from the modem to the router but not for trying to get a better ping but to have the best bandwidth option feeding the router.

So having one feeding the switch is enough then? Because I have 3 different ip addresses for my apartment. If its something as simple as a 10 dollar ethernet cable then I would like to say that it will never be throttled by an under-specced switch configuration.

So to be clear as to what your setup is , each room has a cat 5e cable that you can connect to and the other ends are at a centralized switch that is connected to a modem. The switch/router is providing the ip's.
If the modem and switch are next to each other then you could get a short cat 6 cable to connect them if you wanted to.
