Windows not recognizing SSD

I just installed a Samsung SSD. It shows up in BIOS and I installed the Magician software it came with, but Windows doesn't recognize it. In Computer, it does not appear under Hard Disk Drives. Is there some step I missed, or could it be a problem with the SSD?

  1. I'm assuming you want to install Windows on your SSD?

Disconnect the SATA cables from all other hard drives so just the SSD is connected and try again.
  2. This is my second SSD. I already have one that has Windows on it. This one is just for more space, and Windows is not detecting it.

do you mean it doesnt show when you open my computer?

does it show in disk management?
  4. Yes it appears in disk management, but not My Computer. It said "Not initialized". I formatted it and now it says "Online", however it still does not appear in My Computer.

Edit: It is now working fine
  5. try in disk management right click it and initialize it

right click on the picture of it at the left hand side not on the drive

edit--never mind just saw your edit
  6. How did you get it to work? I am have the same problem

  7. the answer is the registry needs to be changed to accept ahci as windows 7 doesnt change when u install a new ssd...........i have tried all the solutions offered here and aother sites and none worked..eg firmware update...bios update gigabyte motherboard drives re installed reinstalled windows 7 etc so it goes on................
  8. I had the same issue. Even though disk management said it was online, it wasn't. I used Paragon disk manager to bring the drive really online. Everything was fine after that.
  9. Did you partition your SSD? or it shows as an unallocated space
