I have a laptop that has Intel HD Graphics 4000, can I replace it with Intel HD Graphics 5000 (once it comes out)?

no it's in the processor, so you'd have to replace the processor and new architecture coming out so don't expect to buy a new processor for your laptop. Also that would be a LOT of hassle to open up, voids warranty and even if it was possible wouldn't do much, but who knows intels next igpu could be amazing. To sum up no.

It's a laptop and it's made by ACER. From my experience, it's a right pain to go about replacing a Hard Drive, let alone the processor. Also, mobile parts cost a lot. It'd be cheaper to make a cheap APU rig for (basic) gaming at 720p.

This

Theres no reason to try change your processor and as said before you cant the hd 4000 is the best igpu from intel right now and once the next hd series comes out, it will not be compattible with you laptop. Unless you change the mobo too, but again doing this in a laptop is more trouble than it's worth and would cost alot.

You CAN'T. It's a laptop. You have an i7, which will last for 3 years. Wait til then and get a laptop with a discrete GPU to avoid this situation again.

Trust me, mobile parts cost up to double their desktop equivalent and the chances of breaking it are twice as much. Finally, the rep probably said that so then the following would happen: You screw your laptop up, can't claim warranty, and have to buy a new one.

Dude no one said that you CAN'T change the motherboard they just said it would cost more than it is worth and it is a big pain int the ass to do so. Plus you are already running the best igpu that intel has so you would gain NOTHING in doing so.

I KNOW! I was gonna change it when next-gen intel comes out! I wasn't going to change the best processor for gaming unless a better one hits the market! I'm not an idiot, plus this is the cheapest gaming laptop I could find, so I will buy a new motherboard when the time comes.
