I'm running a lenovo Z580 laptop with Windows 8, which I got roughly around Christmas 2012. Up until today everything was working fine. Now, however, I can't seem to get past the splash screen - if I click on any icon (I've mostly been trying desktop) the screen turns to black, accompanied by a flashing icon in the corner (usually it's the battery icon for some reason) and flashing cursor with the blue working wheel.
After this, I'm returned to the login screen. On past attempts to log in again, I've noticed that the icons in the splash screen are somewhat messed up - they change sometimes if I move my cursor over them, and they're not in the places they were originally.
I have tried running sfc/ scannow via safe mode with the command prompt, but to no avail. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
