Hello guys .
I been doing much research this week on gaming monitors . Hours literally . The conclusion I have come to with decision are these three main points so far
1. It's either an IPS monitor or
2. A 120 hz monitor
3. I don't really want a higher then 24/25 inch monitor at this stage so things are more in my vision on screen .

That being said I still can't decide . What would you guys pick over the other . 120 hz monitor for smoother play and performance or IPS for pretty colourful display . I don't want to Korean monitor . I've read mixed reports on these monitors some good some bad . This following link is a wonderful selection of monitors designed for gaming . Maybe I can get several replies with this post I'm creating here because I seriously am not sure what to go for. I would love some advice please . Here's the link check these out

The BenQ monitors have good reputations for gaming monitors. However, the reviews tell us that their color reproduction is poor. That's the sacrifice you make for speed. I have a 144hz ASUS, and it's an awesome gaming display. But when I want to do everyday work, like word processing, or when I want to view static images, I use my six-year-old, 16:10, 60hz Optiquest.

Are you an intense and demanding gamer? Do you play the latest fps games that require heavy-duty gaming PCs? What are your system specs? Can your PC yield more than 60fps with today's games? Do you do work on your computer, like professional graphic design? Is speed more important to you, or do you prefer perfect color reproduction? These are some questions that need answers before we can give informed advice.

Hello zippypeanut .
I really appreciate your extensive response in detailed instruction and I will answer the questions you have asked to the greatest detail I can.

I am an intense demanding gamer.
Yes I play the latest fps and every other style as well.
I don't work on my computer . Just surf the Internet and stuff like that . It's main priority is gaming .
Well see when you ask is speed more desirable then color reproduction gee I wish I could have both lol . But I guess that won't happen. So I am not sure what to go on.

System specs : 2 x overclocked edition gtx 580's, I7 3770 k , 16 gb memory , 250 gb intel SSD, g1 sniper m3 killer gaming motherboard , corsair 750 gold certified power supply.

I guess making my decision can be based on what kind of increase I would get by IPS vs 120hz compared to my boring 60 hz tn I think monitor . For gaming . I guess not having ever used a IPS monitor yet means I don't know what I'm missing so 120 hz might be way to go . Or maybe the 60 hz is fine at the moment and the display increase would be better i just don't know lol . I'm leaning better hz . But I don't know.

Hello budget is $500 to $1000 Australian
Also I will upgrade when I feel I need to . Graphics and more as higher demanding games come out .

Hey, rav:
It sounds to me like you'll benefit the most from 120hz! 120hz does make a difference in gaming. Your machine is strong, but getting above 60fps with games like Crysis 3 and Metro 2033 on ultra settings might not be possible. But, overall, you will be able to achieve more than 60fps with many games; and, since gaming is the primary purpose of your PC, then 120hz TN over IPS is your better choice. The BenQs are fine monitors. But also check out the ASUS VG248QE.

Regardless of which brand you choose, your color, out of the box, is going to suck. So, you will have to spend some time calibrating the monitor before you'll get decent color.

When you get your monitor, don't forget to turn V-sync off, and be sure to check out this cool site that shows the differences between motion perception at different frequencies: http://frames-per-second.appspot.com/.
Good luck!

Well thank you very much for all your wonderful helpful replies . I am inclined to go for a 120 hz monitor . But 1 question I have is if I am playing my game and getting say 104 fps . Will the 120 hz monitor drop it down to 60 hz as a default Or something like that ? Will I only be able to play games at 120hz if my cards can produce 120 fps in the game I am playing ?

A 120hz monitor will always display at 120hz, even if your graphics card cannot produce 120fps. It is the same case with playing on a shitty old computer with a normal 60hz monitor; you get shitty framerates and you see the lag, but the monitor is still running at 60hz.

120hz simply means your screen is able to change the image shown up to 120 times a second. It will just continue to display the same frame and wait for the next if your graphics card cannot keep up.
