Im looking to replace my nvida geforce 8500 gt but im not sure what to go to. Im completely lost when i have browsed newegg for a new card. The only reason im looking to replace this card is that im a off and on player of Wow and i have not bought the latest expansion since i was only getting 4-9 fps on Cataclysm standing still in a low to moderatly populated city. id get 9-11fps if noone was around and that was with all of the settings on low-fair. id like to be able to get a card that will play on mid to high settings but i know my computer is a few years old so that may be a far stretch.

my system was a prebuilt "gaming" computer from newegg.

its running Vista home premium 32 bit. I have upgraded from 2gb ram to 4gb. i run 2 monitors 1 threw the vga port on the 8500 gt and one threw a dvi to vga adapter. resolution is 1280 by 1024. Other than that everything is the way it came.

id like to stay $200 or less for upgrades but if thats not possible my top end would be $300.

that brings me to my first hurdle. looking up my motherboard it shows i only have a pci express x 16 slot. can i use a card ment for a pci 3.0 x 16?

I have run across several threads where recommendations are pci 3.0 and 2.0 but i thought this was a different slot and would not fit.

Please correct me if im wrong.

Look at reviews on that model around sites, the power supply seems to be weak, the 8500GT takes 27w on load therefore if you are not looking to upgrade the power supply i'd look at a HD7750 which takes only 43w or a HD7770 if you're feeling brave which takes 86w, and will need a 6 Pin connecter going to it, thats the cheapest option

But you could get this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027 $59.99 Corsair CX500 Psu

and

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202004 $169.99

HD7850 OC ( Also get the new Bioshock Infinite and Tombraider for free )

Total of = $229.99

This will allow you to play World at warcraft on 1280x1024 on maximum settings anything over HD7850 would be overkill and plus it allows you to play other high end games.

You'll also need a 64-BIT operating system such as Windows 8 and 7 to take advantage of the 4GB of RAM. And also a overclock on that old core 2 duo E8400 to 3.6Ghz would go in hand to stop bottleneck.

PCI- Express 3.0 is backward compatible to 2.0 and 1.0 so there is no problem there :)

From what I know a Pcie 2.0 and 1.0 are backwards compatible. I would assume 3.0 is as well. I would suggest more RAM atleast to 4gb and like ASHISH65 said Windows 7 64 bit and graphics card. Also make sure your psu supports the graphics card.

so between the 2 cards which would be the better choice? they both are the same price on newegg. im compairing a 256 bit 1gb card to a 128 bit 2 gb card and im right back at square 1... lost lol. it looks like either way a power supply and windows 7 64 bit will go along with it.

so ive ran into another snag when going to purchas the 650 ti. Both of my monitors only support analog. im using the vga and a dvi to vga adapter with my current setup. All of the 650's and 650 ti's only have 1 dvi-i or vga port mixed with a dvi-d. i have found 2 hd 7850 that will work but ive never heard of either manufacturer so i wanted your imput.

Are these cards as good as the 650 ti or are the junk off brand?

Card removed... after reading the reviews it was misleading and did not have 2 dual like ports and wont work.

(EDIT) im not impressed with the diamonds reviews either so if you can weigh in on that card or suggest a new card that will work with 2 analog monitors id appreciate it.
