Hi, I'm trying to figure out whats up with my system. My CPU seems to be really slow, I ran 3dmark to get an idea of whats going on and here are the results:

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/6298388

This is my setup:

Windows 7 Pro 64
Sapphire Radeon 7770 HD
AMD Phenom x4 955 3.2 Ghz black edition
8 GB ddr3 ram (2 4GB sticks)
500W Power supply
BIOSTAR A780L3L AM3 AMD 760G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

The physics score usually comes in between 900-1200 which from what I understand is really bad.

What should I be checking to find out whats wrong with my cpu/machine and what to replace?

More about : low physics score low 3dmark score 3dmark11 900 1200 phenom 955 black edition

What make/ model is that PSU?

Also, look at your 3dmark score (HINT : pay particular attention to the Processor Clock speed)

After a long night of no sleep... I tried just about everything and reseating the CPU gave me a boost in benchmark. I now have 4000 in physics and P6500 overall. My FPS went up but in my opinion still not optimal. I may have to agree that the CPU is bottlenecking my 7950. Can anyone confirm this? My motherboard is a AM3 socket....

If my CPU is indeed bottlenecking my 7950, what is my cheapest upgrade? I want to go Intel but.....with a AM3 socket only motherboard, I would have to replace both.
Advice? Thanks for all the answers.

I looked at you score in 3dmark11. its showing your processor at 800mhz. the 955 should be at 3.2ghz at stock speed. you can fix this by going into the control panel and click on power options and set to high performance. it may be a problem with how 3dmark is reading your processor or it may not. either way setting it to high performance will force it to run at full speed. it will not drop to idle. secondly, since it is a black edition, you can overclock it. raise the multiplyer to 20 and you will be at 4.0ghz and set the voltage to 1.45 and you should be good to go. i had a phenom II x 4 955 non black edition processor 95 watt version and i had to overclock it old school by raising the base clock and got good results. when you do that its much more complicated because it raises the ram, htt, and northbridge i think. so you have to make adjustments to those as well to make all the numbers work. i now have a 965 black edition processor, and it actually gets a lower physics score than the 955 did, so it may just be the luck of the draw. the best one i had was a phenom 970 black which would overclock up to 4.3ghz. im not sure if the graphics card has anything to do with the physics score or not, but thats a pretty basic card.

Reply to final734: Can you list your complete system specs? btw, youre asking a question as an answer to someone elses question. If your socket is am3, get the best phenom you can find. i saw newegg had some 970s back in stock a few days ago. if it was am3+ i'd say get a 6 core fx. there like $119.
