I haven't taken an interest in computing for the last 3 years and have bought myself a new laptop to fill my needs as a student however, I hav noticed and this may be a very stupid question but why do I only have 675GB available of the stated 750GB...

That;s 75GB that is non-existant on my laptop.

C: - 475GB D: - 200GB..

Could someone enlighten me as I was kind of happy to have 750GB HDD at 7200rpm. 75GB is a lot of storage to be "hidden"

Formatting can take about %10 or more of your storage off of the stated size even (Not sure the exact percentage as it can vary). Installing any operating system formats the drive to the type of file system required.

You are likely using NTFS with Windows 7 or 8 if you have a new laptop. NTFS (New Technology File System) as well as any other File System will take some space.

It is unfortunate. I have about 698 GB with 750GB my secondary drive. So I got lucky, perhaps a different HDD.
