I'm planning to upgrade Vista 64 Ultimate to Windows 8 on a new 256 GB SSD. I've ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 MB having SATA 2 interfaces. The question I've is:
1.) Will there be a significant performance improvement for using Samsung 840 Pro over Samsung 840 SSD since they're connected to SATA 2 i/f anyway?
I understand for this, I've to first install Vista on the new SSD, upgrade to Win8 & reinstall all the applications. From what I've read, it'll be the most reliable option. The data needs to be accessible from any of my PCs (3+) & the access should be secured. I think I should be able to connect this HDD via external enclosures (USB, eSATA), NAS, etc.
So after the OS upgrade:
2.) What is the best but relatively cheaper option for me to access the data (Music, Photos, Video, etc.) from the existing WD Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 HDD? I just have a 1 HDD & I can't find another to create a RAID.
3.) There are mixed reviews for Win 8. Did I make the right choice over 7?
4.) Current Vista install randomly stops connecting to the internet & I've tried all the possible options for e.g. reinstalled drivers, changed interfaces (2), changed cables, changed CAT 5 connectors, changed modem/router, use WiFi Adapter, etc. It all boils down to Vista. Besides, the boot time is over 50 seconds with 24 GB CORSAIR DOMINATOR 1600 (PC3 12800) DDR3 RAM. With Vista upgrade mandatory, what would you have done differently in choosing SSD/HDD storage option?
