I am putting together a new system the motherboard has two SAS ports and I want to take advantage of it by using Dual Port capable SAS drives .

I have been using SCSI for years this will be my first SAS/SATA system, I have not ordered the hard drives yet so I do not know what the dual port connections look like.

Are the SAS ports on a dual port harddrive two separate 7pin connectors?

If so then I just need two SAS to 4 7pin cables correct?

The dual port SAS Fujitsu drives I was looking at have a to/from host speed of 3Gbps

You are right about the redundancy however I could always install a SAS controller card in the future.

I couldn't find a cable for dual port. That might be, because it's usually used with backplates. Did you find one?

Icy Dock makes internal hard drive cages with dual port backplanes so will go that route.

Now just need to know of you can mix SAS controllers as long as they both support the same raid types for the dual port redundancy and speed boost?
