Possible bottlenecks upgrading to Radeon HD 7850/7870 Ghz/7950 Boost on my 2009 system

Hi all,

I built my system in 2009 and am now looking to upgrade from my GTX 285:

Intel i7 920 @ 2.66 (Bloomfield)
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R MB
EVGA 1 GB GTX 285
6 GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 SDRAM 1600
Corsair TX Series CMPSU-750TX 750 W ATX12V v2.3
Windows Vista 64 bit - I know, I should've upgraded to Windows 7!

Would my system be able to take full advantage of the 7950, or should I settle for the cheaper 7850 or 7870 Ghz? I'm not sure if my CPU (or other component) would cause bottlenecks that would negate the better GPU or higher VRAM on the 7950.

I play a pretty diverse mix of FPS, RPGs, RTSs (would really like that Crysis 3/Bioshock bundle).

Thanks in advance for your help!

You're fine going with a 7950 as long as you're playing at 1080p resolution or higher. Really you're fine for anything except multi-GPU setups at 1080p+.

Thanks for the response BigMack! I intend to stick to 1080p+ gaming on one monitor with maybe the option for a 3-monitor set up in the future. I figured the 7950 would sufficiently future-proof me for the next 3 years or so until I have no choice but to build a new system.
