Hi-

This will be my first build. I am looking for something that will help me with my everyday functions. I need a computer that has high performance and storage. I go to school, i have my own business plus i need lots of storage for my music and stuff. More importantly, id like good sound and to be able to watch hd movies.. I also will be building databases on it aswelll( i dont know if that helps you any). What is a realistic price range? I am hoping not to go over 1,000 dollars. I have been told that building a computer is better because it lasts longer and is cheaper. Id rather invest in something like this and know it will last then to buy another built computer that lasts me only 3 years at most. What is your take? what are your recommendations for parts? I appreciate any help you can give me :)

that is awesome advice, everything you have recommended. I noticed that the cpu is out of stock on newegg.. i will defintely look into everything.. what do you recommend a builder should spend the most money on? like where should i invest the most money into?

depends on your usage but the first thing you never cut cost on is a power supply as it is the heart of your system. second the motherboard as it is the nerve center for all your other components. then a SSD is huge preformance booster and i urge you to put good ones in raid 0 as it will really make your PC feel snappy and fast. last a strong CPU will get the work done quicker when actually processing your database.
CPU shows as instock for me....try the 3770 non k version as it is basically the same with a locked multiplier (overclockers like unlocked which i doubt you need)

An I7 is not needed at all.. An I5 2500K would be alot cheaper and better suited for what the OP is asking. Hell, he could probably even go with something like an I3 3220.

i don't agree.... i just tried to do the best performing components within the budget. you can always go lower no question but if its in the budget going for more performance is hardly a negative thing.

Late to the party but I would suggest for cheaper something along the lines of

CPU: I5 3570K (From my experience it runs anything you can possibly throw at it unless your jow is to burn out CPUs.)
Mobo: MSI Z77A G41
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB
Graphics Card: Nvidia GTX 550TI (More than enough for watching movies and that kind of stuff you want to do.)
PSU: SeaSonic M12II 520W

Not sure about the total price but its probably somewhere along the lines of $600 ish. Good Luck. :D

Not sure what you mean by where does one invest the most money, Intel is defiantly more expensive but worth it. Also, why buy a custom PC? Building one yourself is WAY more fun and it's a great learning experience! I know you said you won't be doing any gaming but if you ever decide to the spec list I gave you will be a pretty good gaming machine as well.
