7870hd power consumption

Not in the least bit would I recommend that or think it would be safe. If it was an actual good brand and could actually output 500W it'd come with 2 PCI-E power connectors. Cooler Master is a very crappy brand for PSU and I highly recommend replacing it even if you don't get that new GPU.

The PSU is one thing you definitely don't want to cheap out on since if it fails (which is a higher likely hood when it's a bad brand) and doesn't have the saftey features to protect other components you could have saved $20 initially only to have $300 of broken parts in the future.

Now for the list of brands that are actually good, listed in no specific order, Antec, SeaSonic, OCZ, PC Power & Cooling, XFX and Corsair.

He's just scaring you. cooler master isn't as bad as they used to be. They are still not the best but i consider them a "in the middle brand". You should be fine. Those recommended power ratings are for crappy psu's anyways

I would personally just use the coolermaster. Seasonic in general is a very good brand, but they also sell psu's made from other companies and then just slap their name on it (usually their lower end models). Since anything with "green" in the name is usually subpar, this seasonic psu mighe be one of those rebranded psu's.

If you want to be on the safe side, get a 7850 or a gtx 660 and use it with your cooler master cpu. That way you save money.

I'm still never going to recommend someone running a cheap and commonly known as crappy brand of PSU that also only comes with one PCI-E power connector.

Anyways this is what the website shows as the labeled Amps it can support (I'd be willing to bet that's an overestimate).
http://www.coolermaster.com/upload/product_feature/Thunder_500W.jpg
The Seasonic PSU in comparison for the same labeled wattage is capable of 32A on the 12V rail.

Using this http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine (what I've found to be the most accurate). I have the pro version which will show about the amps on each rail. With I put in as having a i5-3570 (not overclocked) which is probably lower than the CPU power of most CPU's, two sticks of DDR3 two regular 120mm fans, a regular SATA HDD a 7870 and a CD/DVD combo drive. It's listing only 287 watts as minimum (337 recommended) but what's key is the 3.3V with 7.0A, 5V with 9.2A and 12V with 22.3A. That's far too close to what I already believe to be an inflated maximum value.

Seasonic does not and has never rebranded a power supply. And the only line from CoolerMaster that is not complete crap is the Silent Pro series. The Thunder 500w is an old CWT model that does not even meet 80 Plus certification.

Every Seasonic ever made. Current or discontinued.

indeed the extreme series of cooler master psu are pretty crappy, but they also have series that are quite good such as their "ultimate series", "gx series", and some "real power series". Since we dont know how this "thunder" series performs we can not quickly assume its crap. To be on the safe side getting a better psu or a weaker gpu id recommended, but those requirements on the box are usually inflated anyways.

So a good choice would be to just keep the cooler master and get a weaker gpu. That way you save money.

If you can afford it get the Seasonic. If not any 500w and up power supply from Corsair, Seasonic, PC Power and Cooling, XFX, Silverstone, Enermax, OCZ or Antec will work.

Well that list only shows the 300w version of the eco power. But then again i just assumed seasonic rebranded because thats what most companies do

Maxing Crysis 3 will require a GTX 680 / HD 7970 even at 1440 x 900. To really max it at 1920 x 1080 you need 2 of these cards. You will be able to play the game on higher settings even with a GTX 660. But you will not be able to max it with a sub $500 GPU for several years. Just like the first Crysis.
