Hi everyone,
This is the first time ever I post a question here...

Would really appreciate any help or insights for my problem...

First of all, here is the quick summary of my PC built:
Board: MSI P67 - GD55 Rev. B3 (1155)
Intel i5 2500k - OC 4.2GHz (1.30v)
2x4GB DDR3 Vengeance
PSU: Corsair 600W (http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Builder-Series-Watt-CX600/dp/B0092ML0OC)
GPU: ATI XFX HD6950 1GB
OS: Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

Here is the problem:
I intended to upgrade my GPU to XFX HD7970 DD TDBC Black Edition, when I replace my HD6950 with it, my PC just won't boot up (It bootup passing BIOS, but then my monitor just shutdown, with all fans in my pc are still running - this i know because my LED fan still up and cycling)

My question are:
1. Does this related with the fact that I haven't uninstall my previous HD6950 driver prior to my 7970 installation? (My poor logic thinks it is okay as they are both came from the same company)

2. Does it relate with the fact I connect my HD7970 with 1x(6+2) pin and 1 x 6 pin? The quick installation guideline in the GPU box states:
- Connect TWO individual PCI Express (6 pin) to each individual connector on the GPU
- Connect two individual PCI Express (-pin) to the GPU. Note: Do not plug a 6-pin power cable into an 8-pin power connector
This is quite confusing for me, as the HD7970 physical power connector has 8 slots and 6 slots on them
So what I do just what I stated earlier, I connected my 1x (6+2)pin and 1x(6+2 - i left this +2 hanging) pin

3. PC Power calculator states that my current built only need 523W (I have tried to include all my OC volt, 2x my SATA HDD, 1 DVD/RW, 4 x LED 120 FANs (i only have 3 actual, I added 1 just in case), etc

4. Or, this is what I fear the most, my HD7970 DD TDBC is defect? I really don't want to go and RMA'ing my new GPU as I think it will take a long time to process in my country..

Any help would really be appreciated...thank you.

PS: I am able to post this question after I installed back my old HD6950

Thank you
Regards,

Solution
Try removing the drivers thought that shouldn't be the issue if you're using the latest driver (went from a HD2600 to 7850 without issue with drivers)

Also I had a friend us a 2500k @4.5ghz + 2x7970's on a CX600 before though they would throttle themselves due to lack of power
1x 7970 should be fine

Your pin connect is fine, and running an 6950 before, your power pins are likely working fine

I would see if you can try on another rig, if not consider it RMA

Thank you for the reply...

After reading that there are so many people complaining about their 7970, I fear that's what exactly happen in my PC built...

I have ordered a new 750W PSU which will come tomorrow just to make sure that it really is my GPU and not my PSU...will post it tomorrow just in case anyone interested...

never had a bad experience with XFX before...really hope this isn't a defective GPU tbh..:(

Edited: got new 7970 and the pc bootup without any problem....
Can only hope this replacement GPU wont show any problems in the future... *crossing my finger..

Kinda dissapointed with XFX....
