I have recently upgraded my RAM from 2 X sticks of 2GB to 2 x sticks of Corsair 4GB.
I am running W7 Home Premium.
When i fit both sticks, W7 will not start, but with one stick of the new RAM it will.
I have checked i have the RAM in the right slots.
Could it be the new RAM is 1600mhz and the old is 1333mhz?
I can also get W7 to start with 1 stick of new 4GB and 1 stick of the old memory = 6GB total.
I tested with 1 stick of new memory $GB plus 2 sticks of old 2GB = 8GB and W7 will not start.
So i am drawing a conclusion that my W7 just does not like above 6GB.
My Motherbard supports 16GB max over 4 slots (4GB per slot).
Any thoughts ?

Thanks to the swift replies, just to be clear, my new RAM both Corsair 4GB 1600mhz will not allow pc to book. If i take one outi.e. 4GB left the pc starts fine.

If i add another 2gb RAM 1333mhz it runs and start fine.

If i add another 2gb RAM 1333mhz the pc does not start.

It seems 8GB is the threshold that the pc gives up.

How do i set the RAM in BIOS ??

Oh and in safe mode it boots up and does show 8GB RAM in PC.

Update this morning;
I disabled memory remapping in BIOS settings, the PC booted...hoorah.
But on 3.33GB RAM out of 8GB RAM useable.
I then went back into BIOS and enabled memory remapping.
PC Booted.
Still only 3.33GB available.

Went into MSCONFIG and ticked MAX RAM box.
Rebooted.....
PC starts again, and now i have 7.24GB RAM available.
So how do i get that final bit of my 8GB RAM to be available ?
I have not seen any of what i have done on the web so thought i would post my trials so others.

you running windows 32 bit aren't you? it is not capable of seeing greater then 4gb of memory (including video memory thus the 3.33 available). memory remapping is a trick some motherboards have to get around the 4gb thereshold but it is a trick and not all programs will be able to use it properly. it is also what is cause you issues (or at least a lot of them) you need windows 64 bit to utilize all your ram properly.

No i have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit Operating System.

Despite my previous post, although the pc now reads 7.25GB of RAM , its unstable and crashes to blue screen when any programmes are opened.

Looks like my 2 new sticks of 1600mhz RAM will be on ebay tonight.

I can only think this is the problem , the RAM speed @ 1600mhz. My motherboard says max 1333mhz. My error, but from other posts i thought the 1600mhz would work but the pc would down it to 1333mhz.

Hi there,

I am not a pc expert, far from it and do not know what clocking is or the volts you make reference to.

However i learn fast, so your thoughts would be appreciated.

I am running a Foxcomm P55A motherboard.

I am addressing the original problem by using the manufacturer web site for his MOBO.

Yes you can manipulate the RAM to lower the speed that I am not contesting, I am just pointing out the original problem. That is why we are suppost to read the instructions.

Then I'm totally missing the point you were trying to make. The only "error" I saw in your post was that his board only supporting 1333/1066. What did I miss? (By "error" I'm not saying you were wrong. I'm saying you were pointing out an error.)

All,

I gave up trying to get the Corsair to boot, i even tried updating my AMI BIOS but i could not figure that out eirther.

So its now down th PC show for them to figure it out......but they didnt sound confident either !

Thanks to all your suggestions, really appreciated.

I like to try and fix things myself, but this one beat me !

Final post from me on this one.

Really annoying.....

I could not get the update of the BIOS to work and it was bit over my head so I took it to a local PC shop to sort the problem.

They told me it needed a reload of windows, so after 3 hours labour and a £115 bill my windows was reloaded and I was told that all should be okay.

Got home started reloading games and blue screen of death again !

I have now taken the Corsair RAM out and put the old RAM back in and everything runs okay.

My question is, the retailer I purchased this ram from was Maplin and they will not refund or exchange hardware.

So now I figure my only option is to see if Corsair will exchange for me for the 1333mhz version of the same RAM.

Does anybody know if this is possible and is there a UK address to deal with ?
