I've browse the forums on this topic but I'm still having problems. I tried installing windows 7 with a CD but I got an error code 0x80070017 (It finish nearly half-way) so I had to use a USB, but when I try installing windows 7 from the USB I get the "setup was unable to create a new system partition". I followed the instructions on the mircosoft site to properly have a bootable USB with windows on it.

I've deleted the existing partitions and created a new one and formatted. Still couldn't get it to run.

When booting I 've press F11 and selected the USB first (Not sure if you're suppose to have it boot from the hard drive first or the USB so I tried both. I was able to change the boot order from the BIOS). I have a ASRock x79 extreme 4 motherboard. Not sure what to do anymore. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

-Thank you

You don't need a partition to install windows. The install process will create the partitions for you (one for the bootmanager, one for windows. Just start the installation and hit "extended disk options" where you select the drive. You can delete the partition there, select the now raw space and install to it.

I've tried what you've mention. I deleted the partitions and didn't create a new one. I selected the "Disk 0 Unallocated Space", but I'm still getting the "unable to create a new system partition". I also tried resetting the CMOS but that didn't help either.

Is the sata mode set to ahci or something else, like raid. I think for the raid mode, you need to load the disk drivers from intel with F6.
