Hi,
I recently bought a 1TB Seagate disc (ST1000DM003-9YN162 ATA) and inserted it into my PC, which already had a Western Digital (WDC WD3200JS-63PDB1) disc in it. (both discs are SATA)
The problem is this. Sometimes when I turn on the computer it doesn't detect the new Seagate disc. The BIOS just hangs for about a minute or two and then displays only the Western Digital disc and continues. If I turn the computer on and off few times it will eventually detect the Seagate drive.

Has anyone experienced problems like this?

Hi

sometimes there is a BIOS option to wait for a short time for hard disk to be active/ready
(increase time by 5 seconds)

Also run Seagates bootable diagnostic disk to ensure there is no fault on disk

check data + power cable at both ends to check fully connected

regards
Mike Barnes

Hi,
1) I have tried different cables for both drives, no luck there
2) Searched the BIOS for the wait option. Couldn't find that anywhere.

I've ran the Seatools checks without anything coming up. I didn't try the Advanced search as it warns
me I could loose data and I have no other drive to back my data to.

One thing I noticed is that I have firmware CC49. Maybe this is an outdated firmware? Should I perhaps upgrade. I am a bit paranoid about loosing all my data, there is alot of work on this disc I need to make sure is safe.

Sincerely,
Einar.

I have fixed this problem. I needed to perform a firmware upgrade. Downloaded the software from: http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/223651e...

The BIOS now detects both drives everytime the machine is turned on. yay
