Wireless video streaming

Hi,

I was wondering if it is possible to stream videos with a budget netbook or notebook. I am totally lost... and I need to buy a new one. It's just for surfing the internet, watching videos, and maybe working with adobe from time to time.

Thanks for the help

  1. Watch videos on a cheap laptop or netbook? Yes, shouldn't be any issues with that at all.

    Acer Aspire One AOD270-26Dkk - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215442 - $245
    Gateway NE56R34u Notebook - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834101303 - $329
    lenovo IdeaPad S405 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834310636 - $400

Not sure your budget but all 3 of those I would consider low budget machines. The $400 would be ideal and last you longer. The $245 will work but might be a little sluggish on the Adobe from time to time.
  2. Thanks for the reply!

I don't want to spend much on it, it's just for watching HD videos from internet and occasionally running excel or word or ppt... the most demanding program would be adobe illustrator (that's probably not too demanding? I don't know).
I would love to be able to use wireless internet... and I'd love it to be small, that's why I'm looking at netbooks.
I would love a small netbook like Acer Aspire One AO756-887BXSS. The only thing is, it runs with Intel Celeron processor and I read somewhere that it's not too good (I suppose for very demanding work, but for me?) so I am also considering the Lenovo Ideapad G580 because it runs with intel core i3. I don't know what that means but after hours of reading reviews I think it means something good.

I really like the Lenovo ideapad, the one you suggest is not available in the Netherlands unfortunately. Or I cannot find it in the most common online shops. The cheaper I find is the G580, 459 euro. And it has a bigger screen than the acer aspire one.

If I can make do with the acer (it's mostly because it will go places with me, and because it's quite cheap), I think I'd prefer its small size. But if it's going to get sluggish while streaming, or is not good enough for wifi, and I have to go for notebook instead of a budget netbook, I'd prefer lenovo ideapad and then sacrifice the niceness of it being small.

So... will the little acer do? I'd love to know.
  3. Is this the one you're looking at? http://www.laptopshop.nl/product/212875/acer-aspire-one-ao756-887bxss.html

I can't read Dutch, but it will be fine for your uses. It's not the fastest machine on the planet but it will play HD video flawlessly.
  4. Yes, that one.

That's good to know, great :)

Can I ask you something else?
What do you think of this one?

I'm tempted. But it's a lot of money for a small pc. Maybe I should just go for the Acer and upgrade my sluggish 14" HP (it's from 2006 and I keep carrying it around) some other time.

    Are lenovo's good pc's then?
  5. That Lenovo is a completely different animal. It's more of a tablet. You see it uses a flash memory 64GB SSD instead of a HDD. They are fast, but you don't have much room for storage. If you are streaming from the Internet or a DVD it's not a problem, you wont have very much room at all on the hard drive for storage. If that presents a problem for you, I would definitely choose the Acer, especially for the price. Where's the other Lenovo you mentioned with an i3, that one sounded promising.
  6. This one! Took a while to find among all windows I have open.

Drawback for me would be that it has a big(ger) screen, so I wouldn't be able to put it in my purse.

    But it does look good.
  7. It's only 54 Euros more than the Acer. However it has a much better CPU and much better graphics. This is the machine I would recommend out of the ones you have listed. It's a great laptop, get a bigger purse! ;)
  8. Hahaha!

I think I will get this lenovo, indeed. I hadn't thought of this brand very seriously but... it does sound like a nice machine.

Thanks a lot for your help! :) :)
  9. Oh no, wait!

    Last one, promise.

    This one?

    ACER Aspire V5-171-323B4G50ASS

    11,6 inch LED • Intel Core i3-2365M • 4 GB • 500 GB HDD • Intel HD Graphics 3000

Is the CPU similar to the Lenovo or... much worse?
I don't use games, are then the graphics so important?
Because I wouldn't mind having less optimal graphics... if I can save money on not buying a bigger purse.
It's just that the small ones looks so manageable...

That's a good machine. It's CPU and GPU are about 5-10% slower clock for clock. It wont be very noticeable and it fits your size requirements so I say go for it!
  11. Ok, I have a winner!!

    Thanks for your time, honestly.
