Hi

I cloned my C drive of my HDD to my SSD drive to make the SSD bootable. I ued Clonezilla for this (very nice prog for free). The cloning worked, I can boot from the SSD, but I don't see any improvement in the start-up speed of my OS. Shouldn't it be a lot faster?

Maybe a clone isn't as good as a new install? Cluster size is 4096 bytes, NTFS system.

Solution
1) The best method when going from a HDD -> SSD is a clean install. Do not recommend CLONing, Migration is OK Many use the word clone when it is really a migration, A clone is an exact duplicate, sector-by-sector.

2) Download and run AS SSD - don't bother with the bench mark, just look at the upper left.
.. FW, best to use latest.
.. Driver, You do NOT want to see pcide = BAD (Means that when you first installed OS on HDD it was NOT in ahci mode and you copied the IDE mode over. Can be changed.
.. Partition Alignment, want to see "OK". This is auto done when doing a clean install - questionable on cloning software.

Thx for the info guys

A bad Pcide is exactly what I have after running AS SSD. Wil try repairing this by enabling the ACHI in the boot menu.

Love this site, ask a question, answer in 5 min.
regards

Yeah, lucky I did that first. Is it possible to reopen a question or do I need to create a new one?

Because now the RAID/SATA setting is ACHI OK, but again I saw no improvement in the start up speed of the OS.
After removing my HDD, the PC woudn't boot, so there is my real problem, I need to make the SSD bootable. Apparently, like you said, cloning a disk does not transfer the MBR an does not make your cloned disk bootable.

Prob an easy fix in Windows...

This is what I found:
First disconnect the HDD, then Boot to win 7 DVD
To run the Bootrec.exe tool, you must start Windows RE. To do this, follow these steps:
1.Put the Windows Vista or Windows 7 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2.Press a key when you are prompted.
3.Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
4.Click Repair your computer.
5.Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
6.In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
7.Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.
Collapse this imageExpand this imageNote To start the computer from the Windows Vista or Windows 7 DVD, the computer must be configured to start from the DVD drive. For more information about how to configure the computer to start from the DVD drive, see the documentation that is included with the computer or contact the computer manufacturer.

SEE (Expand the Bootrec.exe options).

Hi Chief

Realy appriciate the help. At the end, the bootrec.exe didn't solve my problem, probably because I changed to much (delete files) on the SSD. I finaly decided to make a fresh install of the OS on the SSD.
You have to start all over again to install software and otherthings, but it is more then worth it. The speed increase is spectacular and it is better to start from a clean disk for perfomance once and a while.

thx again

Concur, It is always better to do a clean install when going from a HDD -> SSD.

My Wife's system was a exception, a clean install was out of the question.
.. Started with computer with XP. She bought a cheappy vista HP computer.
.. Bought a program to migrate jyst programs from XP computer to Vista.
.. 6 monthes later I built her a Win 7 System and Gave the HP computer away
.. Before giving it away I again bought a program to migrate her programs on the Programs installed on vista -> win 7 computer.
.. She develope some problems with win 7. Cloned win 7 to a old HDD to use as a ginny pig (if I messed up her HDD - you can guess). Anyway sorted out win 7 (Did an Upgrade of Win 7 to win 7. That kept all programs intack, but fixed Win 7.
.. Then I did a migration of HDD -> SSD. Worked out.
