Hello there

I'm new to this website and I would like some help from you guys.

I have recently bought this 3d Samsung monitor S23A750D only to be able to to play games in 1080p @ 120hz, im not going to use the 3d gaming.

the thing is that the monitor only has two connections which are HDMI and Display-port, and my graphics card which is (GTX560 ti) has 2 DVI's and a mini HDMI. from reading articles on the website i knew that u cannot use HDMI to display 1080p @120hz . i bought a display port to DVI cable from amazon hoping that it can solve the problem but found out that it can only convert display to dvi not the other way around.

So what cable should i buy to be able to use full features of the monitor.
any help would be appreciated.

Another question, I'm thinking of upgrading my graphics card, would you guys recommend me buying the gigabyte gtx670 or should i wait for new ones to come out, ( how long do Nvidia usually take to release new cards) any other suggestions will be helpful.

Thank you..

If you use HDMI, you probably won't get 120hz as an option, unless it supports HDMI 1.4b. I'm not aware of any production monitors that use it, but that could possibly be an option. That of course assumes the 560ti would even support HDMI 1.4b.

670's do have displayports, or at least the reference models do.

You bought a monitor meant for AMD cards, perhaps you should consider getting an AMD card. (3D support isn't as good, but that doesn't sound like an issue for you).

should have said i am using a dual link dvi to hdmi cable

dont know if your card has single link or dual link dvi

or one of each

single link dvi i think will only do 60hz

anyway with the exact same monitor as you 120hz is available in the options with this cable

But are you running 1080p @120hz on that cable, if so can you please tell me where you got that cable from?

I'm currently using dual DVI to HDMI cable, but still the maximum is 60hz. Perhaps the HDMI I'm using isnt 1.4b? how to tell if its 1.4b.

I guess i will have to look for a new card, since i bought an AMD monitor my best option with 670 price range would be an amd 7970?

sorry i got it wrong--just double checked

my monitor is actually S23A700d not 750

sorry--my error-- i am actually using a dual dvi to dual dvi on this monitor

i got mixed up with my other samsung monitor which is a 1920 x 1200 monitor

but that ones only 60hz--thats the one i put the dvi to hdmi on

You probably don't have a dual link DVI-D to HDMI 1.4b cable. It is most likely single link, but even if it is, the monitor has to support HDMI 1.4b, which I've never seen.

I can vouch that I have not seen a single hmdi capable monitor as of yet that supports hdmi 1.4b. I was forced to run 2 dual link dvi connections and a displayport in order to run at my monitors resolution of 144hz(asus monitors). When i plugged in hdmi from my gtx titan to the monitor it capped itself to 60hz. So if you have only hdmi and displayport I would recommend that you get a dvi to displayport cable and plug it in. Should solve your problems.

The thing is I cannot find a DVI to Displayport cable, I only found a displayport to DVI
this is the one i bought
http://

in the description it says " This cable can only pass signal from DisplayPort to DVI port. It is not a bi-directional cable"
I searched for a DVI to display port but cannot find one. If anyone could help me find one i would really appreciate it.

m7mad are you sure you don't have dvi port on that monitor because on the samsung site it lists Connector: HDMI, DVI-D(Dual Link). Doesn't list anywhere about displayport. Displayport looks very similar to a hdmi while the dvi port looks more like an oversized vga with a lot more pins. If it is indeed dvi like the website says just make sure its a dual link dvi cable which are usually a bit heftier in size and have all the pins instead of single link which have a few less.

Even still i looked up the correct monitor and it lists in features (The various inputs, from AV content to 3D connectivity such as DP, HDMI and DVI, ensure that your monitor is more compatible and ready to handle all of your content.) This is from
http://www.samsung.com/sg/consumer/pc-peripherals-printer/monitor/led-monitor/LS23A750DS/XS-features
I haven't seen any monitors that don't come with dvi doesn't mean its not possible but for compatibility it just struck me as odd why they wouldn't have it. Perhaps its located somewhere else on the monitor and he never noticed?

Its not located anywhere trust me, Its so stupid to make a high-end monitor without a DVI connection, I was certain when i bought this monitor that it would come with a DVI connection, but I should be more careful next time when buying something.

Well aside from jumping up to a 600 series card or an ati card with displayport you might be out of luck then as the hdmi output on the 560ti has only hdmi 1.4a which will not ever run 120hz and if there aren't any dual link dvi to displayport cables I don't see much of a solution to your problem.

Well, thank you guys for your time. i think its time for me to upgrade my graphics card and my power supply for the better :)

i have one more question please. I'm looking to buy and AMD card which is the Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 OC version will this card run games like bf3 crysis3 etc in 1080p @120hz?

If you just purchased the monitor, you may be best off getting a 3D Vision 2 monitor. They even have some added benefits: http://www.blurbusters.com/zero-motion-blur/lightboost/

Some of the Samsung's have something similar though and even if you don't think you like 3D, you might be surprised when you use it on an Nvidia PC. It is worlds better than those movies you may have seen, and better than the PS3 and other console 3D options.

I have 3x of the asus VG248QE running and after having them now for about 2 weeks I can honestly say that i love them. Driving them with a single titan in 3d is just wicked. Best part was i got the monitors on a deal for 250$ CDN a piece. Mind you they are TN panels but i'm not too color coordinated just ask my wife :). That radeon card should have no problems running that single monitor as well m7mad.

i don't think so mcnumpty23 it says DVI-D (Digital) single link which won't give you the higher hz. Single link definitely won't work i have a ton of those cables here at my house and it kicked me down to 60hz when i tried it on 120hz and 144hz

oh well

guess its a good excuse to upgrade the graphics card to a gtx670 or 7970 :)

not sure how well their current card would work anyway at 120hz
