Hello all,
I recently finished my first build and am experiencing some problems. Finally got everything up and running until I installed the graphics card. When unplugged my the onboard graphics run everything fine but once the gpu is plugged in and running through that it is constant freezing of absolutely everything. I hear the card chirp once every few minutes and then the computer crashes.

I have a thermaltake tr2 500w psu (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...)

EVGA Nvidia 9800gt gpu (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/ite...)

Its either the power supply or the video card. Would it be possible to test the video card in another system? Or test another video card with similar power usage in this system.

I'm going to see if I can get a friend to help me out unfortunately I don't have another system or graphics card. The gpu is a bit older and from what I could find, the PSU should be good enough unless it's a crappy company or model?

Tier 5 - NOT RECOMMENDED. Replace ASAP if you have one. source- http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx

Sorry for being a complete newbie, but could a bad PSU cause the entire system to crash when the graphics card is plugged in?

Ok so before I can actually make sure it is 100% the PSU my only option is to place the PSU into another system?

There no way to say for sure but the power supply is garbage so it needs to be replaced "Regardless".You could also test the card in a friends computer first to see if the card itself is faulty.
