Hi, looking to buy a 480 GB SSD for a SQL server with many small reads and writes. Would you go with Intel 520 Cherryville, Crucial M4, or other?

Price differences of < 10% can be ignored, reliability is primary concern and speed second concern.

Thanks!

Intel is testing all their drive for longevity and that do it for me, the M4 is still rated 1.2 millions hour MTBF as the Intel 520 series too but the Intel writes are mutch faster and the 520 also feature AES 256bits encryption (not to forgot for a server for security breach reason as you're open on the network)

I have 2 Cherryville 520, a 180GB and 480GB. Got the 180 about a year ago, and the 480GB about 6 months ago. I bought them for reliability and all the reviews I read before buying them said they were one of the top. I've had no issues with them yet, and they both get very close to the advertised speed, even with the 480 being @ 90'ish % full.

Since you have a server have you considered an entry level enterprise ssd?

Among new entry level enterprise ssd's there are the Intel S3700, Micron P400m, and the Samsung SM843 Pro.

I maintain the ssd database listed in the sticky at the very top of this forum section. Unfortunately I only list concumer oriented ssd's. However, I also have a huge hardware database. Here is the link:

Scroll down to the data storage section where you will find an enterprise ssd subsection. Follow the links to the technical reviews.
