Wireless Intermittent Lag Issues

Some brief background: I have a 802.11n Wireless card that I use to connect to my Netgear WNDR4000 router. When I had Windows 7 ultimate installed, I did not experience any sort of connectivity issues like I am today. Currently I have Windows 8 installed, with the same WiFi card and router, which are located in the same locations as they were before (the router is about 20 feet behind me, no walls). I have checked my routers firmware, and my network cards current driver and both are up to date.

I am experience intermittent lag spikes. I cannot tell if this is happening when I am web browsing, as this occurs approximately every 5 minutes for only a few seconds at a time, but I assume that it does since my network card has stopped working much like it does while I am playing a game. So, every 5 minutes or so, I experience a lag spike that lasts a few seconds, and then things return to normal. Also, usually once a day whether I am playing a game or just streaming music, the internet just stops working entirely. My WiFi status bars show full, with that yellow exclamation mark. I cannot connect to any other network, or rejoin my own, and performing a troubleshoot on the issue turns up nothing. The only way to get it working again is to disable the card and then re-enable it.

Although I could attempt a wired connection, it just would not be practical considering the location of my computer and the Ethernet port. Has any else had any issues with Windows 8 and their WiFi connection?

Wireless on Windows 8 and Windows 7 both work fine for me. Is there any way you could try using a different computer temporarily so as to isolate the problem to the computer or the router? If not, using that temporary ethernet cable would be helpful even if inconvenient for a while.

I have other devices, Android phone, two laptops, and a ps3 that don't have any issues with WiFi connectivity, whether they are closer or in another room. This only seems to happen with my Windows 8 computer (and started as soon as I installed the OS).

I can try going wired, although I am certain that my lag issues would disappear over a wired connection. I'll give it a shot when I get home, in the meantime if anyone else has any ideas they will be appreciated.

Since you have other devices that are functioning well on this router when connected wirelessly, there seems to be no need to try a wired connection. I would suggest updating the driver for your wireless card. Do this through the support web site of the manufacturer of the wireless card, not by using the Windows driver update.

I figured it out. I decided to adjust my antenna on the back of my wifi card and I suppose it was teetering on azone that had intermittent interference. the problem hasn't occurred since I adjusted them.
