First time build - seeking any comments

Link to the build> http://pcpartpicker.com/user/jnassbeats/saved/1oHW ..What do you guys think? This is like my 5th thread this week asking basically the same thing lol but I'm just seeking any last minute thoughts from anyone before I go ahead and start ordering components. Some notes; 1. Don't have any desire to overclock 2. PC will be for audio production and casual gaming (Skyrim, SC2, Pro tools, Native instruments software to name a few things) 3. Want it to be quiet 4. Want it to stay cool enough obviously 5. Dunno what OS I should go with 6. Budget is about $1200 for components minus case and the OS (feel free to layout what you would build in my situation)...Lastly, I want to verify the tools and any other stuff I'll need during the building process it self. I want to thank Dark Sable, if he sees this, on most of the part recommendations and the useful info.

Build looks good. Windows 8 is fine. I've encountered absolutely no compatibility problems in any game and it is better in a lot of ways. If you don't like the Start screen, a 30 second download of Classic Shell (Free) or Start 8 ($5) gets rid of it. I'm actually enjoying some of the new apps and the changes to explorer are great. Boot times are faster as well.

If I wanted to stick with the 3770k would the h77 be sufficient for everything? I don't need to SLI gpu's or anything

I checked if I was close to one of those microcenters earlier but no cigar haha.. Would have never knew to pick up an extra cable thanks and should I get more then 8 gb of memory? Want this rig to last a while without really having to upgrade much besides like the gpu and what not.

You don't need an i7 for a gaming rig period. You could drop that to an i5 and invest money elsewhere.

The original build looks really good - my only changes would be to use Windows 7, get an OCZ Vector, and a Gigabyte Windforce 3X but otherwise that's it.

It's not all gaming. Read the original build, it's for audio production too.

@OP: You don't really need the "K" version. The difference between the "k" and the non-k is that the "k" is an unlocked processor which means easy overclocking. Since you're not overclocking, grabbing the locked processor will save some money and perform the same.

Yea this is everything I've been hearing about it especially in an audio editing scenario. I do know Win7 would probably work just as fine as 8 for me. 8 does look pretty though and it seems theres enough solutions for the touch based UI if your on a desktop. Ultimately, I'll lean towards what ever is gonna be better for the PC as a DAW (digital audio workstation).

Appreciate the suggestions bro.. One note is that the rig will be primarily a DAW (digital audio workstation) so i7 is probably my best choice unless AMD has a better alternative for the money.

Interesting well that would def save some money

I wouldn't want to push it too hard, but it does spark my interest as it doesn't just help the performance of games. My main concern would be the heat, but as long as it would be manageable with what I have listed for the build. I revised the build for what your talking about with the ASUS mobo from the second vid and I chose that corsair memory because it would be free with a newegg deal. New Link> http://pcpartpicker.com/user/jnassbeats/saved/1pwy ..Would that wifi connectivity on asus mobo give me no reason for the network card I have here?

I want to avoid the fancy water cooler for my first build. But I want my cooling system to do the job as I am considering OC'ing a little bit

*edit - silence is key as well though

The wifi that come with the asus board is fine. You could drop the wireless adapter.
Heat shouldn't be an issue with the hyper 212 as long as you're only doing decent OC.
Since the motherboard comes with a free stick of ram, you might want to buy the same stick for a total of 16gb for dual-channel memory. Also, the heatspreaders on that ram is huge. It might interfere with the hyper 212.

Do you recommend a different cpu cooler then if I went with this? The ram does look pretty big and will be total of 2 sticks of 8gb if I'm not mistaken.

So with the thermalright cpu cooler I don't have to worry about any additional fans then what the case comes with? It seems like liquid coolers are a tight fit on the top fan mount according to that video with the hot chick reviewing the r4 haha. Would nothing go on the top if I get the thermalright? I really want to make sure I get something that will cool everything safely

According to newegg:
SUPPORT FOR LIQUID COOLING
You no longer have to make the choice between liquid cooling and silence, the R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240 / 280mm radiators to be mounted. Select slim radiators can be mounted in the front fan holder (requires the bottom HDD cage to change position)

So it is possible to fit a cpu cooler in, though it might be a better idea to just go with air-cooling. The fan that comes on the thermal one should be alright.

So its down to 212 evo or thermal. I guess either would be fine just still thinking about the size of that corsair ram

Oh OK, then stick with the i7, AMD doesn't really offer a good value for the money in terms of CPU performance compared to Intel.

The macho looks massive! But hey if it will be safe and works its all good. I read the test and it is a few years old but still seems like it would be an awesome choice.
