Hi All,

I am trying to build a desktop from scratch for the requirements as written in the subject. I have a partial configuration. Please evaluate if this is a good config + give recommendations:

Processor: AMD FX 8350
Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth 990 FX/R2.0
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8 GB DDR3 1600 MHz
Harddisk: SSD + Internal (Any recommendations??)
Graphics Accelerator: NVidia Quadro 5000 or
Operating System: Windows 7 64 bit
Case: Cooler Master/Corsair (or any other...recommendations??)

Please consider that budget is not that much of a constraint.

Please help. Thanks a ton!

It's solid build, it will do the job. Altough you may benefit from core i5 series (more expencive though).

As far as HDD i would suggest WD caviar BLACK series, they are pretty reliable ones but all depends on capacity needed.

For case go for any that suits your budget and likings.

Best regards :)

OK, right off the bat, although I'm a bit of an AMD leaner, I would recommend an intel setup. Definitely an i7. This workstation is going to be running multi threads so one of the hyper-threaded models. 3d modelling will need much more memory than 8GB. 16GB should be your baseline and even consider 32 if you want your projects to really load and render fast. Another aid to fast project loading is having 2 SSDs, one for the OS (I'm using Samsung 840 250GB's at the moment and like them) and one as a pure scratchpad. For the HDD get two and put them in RAID1; you really don't want to lose a large project to a failed drive.
